An error in judgement maybe?
Once the start was buggered he had to decide ;do i go or do i wait?:S
For what it's worth,I think the penalty is a bit harsh

My opinion only

I agree ...a bit harsh...............particularly as this horse was having it's first run.......................you often hear of the desire to not giving horses a bad experience,1st time out!
I am all for stronger regulation ,but I see other rides and wonder whether someone's guide dog was sleeping..............we need consistency, not just the odd example!

No wonder the Powers that be take ABC as a FARKING joke. As per my previous post many Clanners want effective POLICING of Horse Racing and when they start to really Police we have to read all this SH-T.

FFS even the Trainer's evidence was against the Jockey. The norm for this type of offence is 3 months and Mr Khumalo only gets 2 months and that is unfair. All these EXCUSES of being a first run just do not hold water as the Jockey in the experts view did NOT ride this Horse to get the best position possible. Mr Khumalo should of got a min of 3 months suspension.

I just TRUST that this is not a witch hunt and that the PRINCIPAL is enforced at all Race meetings ALL the time.

An inquiry was held into the running and riding of CAT IN COMMAND following this gelding’s participation in the 4th Race at Clairwood Racecourse on the 19th February 2014. The inquiry was convened on the 18th March 2014 and concluded on the 27th March 2014. At the inquiry, Jockey Warren Kennedy was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.2 in that he failed to ride cat in command in a competent and professional manner. The Board was of the view that Jockey Kennedy failed to ask his mount for a sufficient and timeous effort from the 600 to the 200 metre marks, and did not encourage this gelding to improve his position at that time. Jockey Kennedy pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge. The Board having heard all the mitigating evidence, including CAT IN COMMAND veterinary history, and where he finished in the Race, suspended Jockey Kennedy from riding in race meetings for a period of 6 weeks (42days). Jockey Kennedy has the right of appeal against the severity of the penalty imposed.
