Blinkers

Technical training question:

A horse debuts with blinkers, runs poorly and then runs with blinkers again, both times around the bend.

Any idea what's happening here? What might be happening at home that would make one decide to run with BL on debut? Would that have anything to do with giving a run up the straight a miss?

Jack do you think Trainers run horses in blinkers knowing they don't act in them ? Kind of a less dishonest way of dropping down the handicap ?

I've no idea...I suppose some horses are just naturally curious and look around a lot...but would like to know, too...
BUt the horse might be even worse without the blinkers...

I asked a similar type question, regarding blinkers and cheekpieces...

I honestly don't know. Most horses in modern SA start up the straight irrespective of breeding, and I don't remember too many with blinkers on debut. My Mrs told me I'm a bit slow, probably like the horse in question.

I once owned a filly with Jack Dash. Our trainer said to me "we tried a quarter pair of blinkers and a half pair, will only try a full pair when we run over 1000m."
Ok......I pretended to understand.
