Race Meeting Cancelled.................Yet NO rainfall on tthe track???
11 years 5 months ago
This must be a first of some sorts. Friday's meeting at Stawell in Victoria, OZ has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.
With the weather forecasters predicting 43 deg on Friday, the Stewards felt it was impossible to conduct and in the interests of safety of the participating athletes, human and equine, the decision was taken to abandon the meeting.

43 does sound stinking hot to me.
But at what temp does it become dangerous to race?

Yes, I can recall that one! Seems the jockeys were afraid of the SNAKES lurking in the overgrown turf.:

A meeting at Ascot, Bulawayo, was once cancelled because of the sun. Apparently the sun on the day had drawn out water from rains several days previously.

Bath had a meeting abandoned last year after the sewage was leaking into the jockeys change room

No doubt the Stewards acted after the heatwave that is worst in South Australia affected top tennis players & ball-boys at the Aus Open & caused faintings, hallucinations, melting of plastic bottles etc.
Also reports of 1OO,OOO bats falling dead out of the sky.[ Wonder who did the count, manual or by weight?:S]
" A thousand " fires also reported with about 39 still blazing and matches have been stopped at the Aus Open because of the heatwave & the extreme heat policy.
