Presenters please do your homework

This morning Julie Alexander did a brief review of the Queens Plate.
In discussing Jackson she said " ... Even though the QP is a million rand race, he won't want to pick up a penalty for the Met by winning here"
As we all know, he already has the maximum 2kg penalty, so her comment is nonsense.
Then, in discussing Cape Town Noir she referred to his run in the Cape Derby and she said " I don't think he is a mile and a half horse ..."
As we all know, the Cape Derby is run over 2000m and not 2400m.
How can we expect new customers to learn the game if we confuse them by such basic errors?

Peter, I cannot believe this is the first time you have heard Julie make basic errors! She's one of many that's causing the wear and tear on my mute button.....

Quite a few derbies in the world are now run over 10 furlongs. The French derby is run over 10.5 furlongs.

I don't need any help from 'presenters' like Julie, Mr Mollet and Grant Knowles (Robert Bloomberg the exception) on analyzing form and their opinions on whether a horse is/will be suited to a particular trip and really do not listen when they waffle along - what I do need (seeing that I'm not at the track and TT butchers the 'canter down' more often than not) is someone to inform me how the horses went down and what the 'talk' in the parade ring is (tu)

Spot on. I was going to say the only confused people are those who call a 2000m race a 'derby'

I think many people just hear and not listen, her insouciance is tolerable to the authorities @ Tellyrack after the Pierre Jourdaan episode.

I think the word Derby distance has been bastardized over the years
The English derby is run over the classic distance of one and a half miles or 12 furlongs for 3 yr old colts ( fillies can also run) but more common for fillies is the Oaks, however colts can't run in Oaks and that's the way I was brought up (
