many trainers are nominating everywhere they can because of the rain and the potential of meetings being abandoned hence the high nominations

A case of weather we survive or whether we don't.

How is that possible? Surely the owners still pay the keep fee even if there's no racing. Or are you refering to the stables that punt their horses to stay in the game?

Alotof those horses are nominated in other events as well and if they get eliminated twice they are guaranteed a run on the 3rd occasion
Give everything but up!

Surely makes sense - sort of gives everyone a chance to run :S

I was always under the impression that first timers would get preference in maiden races - but nowadays I have seen horses rated in the 50's get in while first timers are eliminated - so what is the current rule ? (too lazy to go and look it up)
