JOCKEY BIRTHDAYS
11 years 10 months ago
While in the Tote on Sunday, June 30th, we were told by the commentator that it was young Grant van Niekerks birthday after he ran a winner. I didn’t stick around for his other races but on reviewing saw that that was his only win for the day.
But he did ride three winners at Kenilworth the day before and two in PE on the Friday. So the question is; how often does this young fella ride 6 winners on a weekend, if it’s fairly regularly, no more questions asked.
I’d hazard a guess though that he was in fact ‘looked after’ on his birthday weekend..?
I say this because I remember 'Striker' Strydom riding four winners on his birthday in 2012!
So if you know of any other jockey birthdays let me know and I could put them on my database . ( I only have a few so far)
Once I have a decent number of their b-days on my list you’re welcome to a copy if you want.
It could give us punters another angle to picking winners.

What happens the day after a Jock's Birthday? Does he ride no winners cause he's hung over(and the other Jocks at the party?)? What about the Jocks we call Xmas Jocks - (We don't race Xmas Day) (

Finally someone who speaks out on the sheer stupidity of the notion put forward here. "looked after". Oh well.

Hibernia hi,
I wonder if 'said' jockey will actually inform us of his own birthday once he has controlled his laughter?
Somehow I don't think so..?

The phrase 'looked after' seemed to raise some scepticism from Thor...
Well old son, if you believe there isn't an element of that in racing worldwide (And especially in sunny SA) , then I suggest you leave the comfort of your front room & your bulging online accounts and come out and 'smell the coffee' (or piss, as is the case in some Totes these days!)
That very phrase was uttered by a top trainers close relative to an acquaintance recently- NOT that we had to be told- it's so bloody blatant sometimes!
What's that word HR people and other truth-mongers like to use..? "Transparency"; that's it. Would be nice to see a little of that in SA horse racing every now and then...
Good luck punters.
