THE 2013 EMPERORS PALACE NATIONAL 2YO SALE

The Emperors Palace National 2yo Sale is a sale which consistently produces outstanding racehorses. This sale has a proven track record for unearthing top-class performers, both locally and internationally.
In recent years, this sale has produced the likes of Gr1 winners All Afire, Asylum Seeker, Fez, Rock Opera, Jackson, Lyrical Linda, Talahatchie and Zaitoon, to name a few.

Such world-class athletes as Cerise Cherry (2nd G1 Hong Kong Sprint), Dane Julia (NZ Breeders Stakes), Irridescence (G1 QE II Cup), J J The Jet Plane (G1 Hong Kong Sprint), Lizarre (2nd Singapore Gold Cup), River Jetez (G2 Balanchine Stakes), and The Apache (G2 Al Rashidiya) are all former National 2yo Sale graduates.

The sale has also produced its fair share of bargains. The Sandown Stud bred Tribal Dance, bought for just R40 000 at the 2010 Emperors Palace National 2yo Sale, and to date, has won or placed in eight features. Tribal Dance, a consistent performer in the country’s top races, has earned over R700 000 thus far for his connections.

Calanish, bred by the Milkwood Stud, was one of the sale’s all time great buys. The son of Lecture cost just R10 000, and, to date, this multiple stakes winner has won eight races and earned over R670 000.

Former champion Night Diva was a steal at the 2001 sale, costing just R22 000 from the Allem Bros draft. Named Equus Champion Female Stayer in 2003, the humbly bred daughter of Daarik won eight races, and over R800 000. Night Diva’s wins included the Gr2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes, and she won or placed in four stakes races.

This year’s catalogue looks well up to scratch, with many of the country’s top sires strongly represented.
Top sires with horses on sale include Captain Al (4), Dynasty (10), Jet Master (4), Silvano (11), Trippi (3), Var (3) and Western Winter (1).

Adding spice to the catalogue are the likes of such hot young sires as Antonius Pius (13), Horse Chestnut (5), Jay Peg (4), Judpot (16), Rebel King (3) and Sail From Seattle (16).

Stallions with their first crop on sale include A P Answer (14), Brave Tin Soldier (3), Elusive Fort (5), Fort Beluga (8), Ideal World (2), King’s Apostle (1), Lateral (12), Mambo In Seattle (3), Scarlet Letter (3) and Seventh Rock (3).

The 2yo Catalogue also offers the first horse ever to be sold in South Africa by the mighty Yeats. The only horse ever to win the Ascot Gold Cup four times, Yeats is represented on the 2yo Sale by a filly. Consigned by the Gary Player Stud Farm, this filly, catalogued as lot 281, is out of a Danehill Dancer half-sister to the G1 mare Livadiya.

Another horse with an international pedigree, is lot 133. By the successful Storm Cat horse Pure Prize (sire of top local sprinter Antious), this filly is from the great Plucky Liege responsible for leading sires Fappiano and Quiet American, as well as successful local sire Go Deputy. This filly is consigned by Highlands Farm.

Highlands are also consigned a daughter of leading international sire Orpen. Catalogued as lot 201, this filly is out of a six time winning daughter of champion sprinter Artax.

There are also siblings to the following stakes winners on sale:
G3W Bit On the Side (Silvano half-sister)
SW Blaze of Fire (Lateral half-sister)
SW Campo de Santana (Alado half-brother)
G3W Dream Come True (Judpot half-brother)
G3W Escapology (Tiger Ridge half-brother)
G3W Flash Drive (A P Answer half-sister)
SW Illumiere (Lateral half-brother)
G3W Kinematic Countess (Silvano half-brother)
SW Northern Frontier (Silvano half-brother)
SW Rosinante (Dynasty half-brother)
SW School Assembly (Judpot half-sister)
G3W Sedge (Black Minnaloushe half-brother)
G2W Silver Age (Fort Beluga half-sister)
SW The Cardinal (Count Dubois half-sister)
SW We Three (Imperial Stride half-sister)
SW Woodland City (Sail From Seattle half-sister)

Another exciting 2yo on sale is lot 346. Consigned by Highlands Farm, this filly is a daughter of leading first crop sire Antonius Pius, and is a full sister to the inaugural KZN Million winner Ace Antonius.

With siblings to such promising 3yos as Chestnut’s Rocket and Heart Of A Lion also on offer, the 2013 Emperors Palace National 2yo Sale is not to be missed!

It is normally on a Friday and a Sunday with a day off for racing on Saturday.
Many buyers complain that they don't want to stay around for racing on Saturday so we are trialling this format this year.
Sales starts at 1pm to give business people time to get some work done , and the sale will be streamed live on our website for those that cant make it.

IMPRESSIVE DEBUT WIN FOR 2YO SALE SIBLING
17 July 2013

Flying Comfort, who made an eye catching winning debut at Durbanville on Tuesday, provided a boost to the pedigree of one of the well bred lots coming up for sale in next month’s Emperors Palace National 2YO Sale.

Flying Comfort (Goldkeeper), who won for fun first time out when scoring by five and a half lengths over 1000m, is a half-brother to lot 175.
A son of Parade Leader, the colt on sale is consigned by Klipdrif Stud (as Agent). The bay, who has been named Charlestown, is out of the beautifully bred mare Colchium.

The latter is a daughter of G1 July Cup winner Elnadim and the Gr2 Gosforth Park Fillies Guineas winner Dog Rose.
Dog Rose herself is also the dam of the high-class performer Saluki, whose 5 wins included the Gr3 Schweppes 2200.

What is interesting about Colchium’s pedigree is that her sire Elnadim and her broodmare sire Fort Wood are closely related. While Fort Wood is out of the great mare Fall Aspen, Elnadim is out of a daughter of Fall Aspen – making Colchium one of the most inbred mares in the catalogue.
For more information on Charlestown and any other of the well bred juveniles on sale next month, please contact the TBA office on (011) 323 5700.

ANOTHER GREAT AD FOR 2YO SALE

The top-class Singaporean based performer Flax, a former Bloodstock South Africa buy, won the G2 Chairman’s Trophy at Kranji on Sunday.
His victory in the 1800m contest took Flax’s winning tally in Singapore to seven, and the gelded son of Silvano has won or placed in 11 of his 18 starts. Winner of the G1 Raffles Cup earlier in the season, Flax has now earned SIN $1,001, 216.

Trained by David Hill for the Newbury Racing Stable, Flax (previously known as Ballistic) was a R230 000 buy at the 2008 Emperors Palace National 2yo Sale.

Well done to breeders Maine Chance Farms, for producing the tough and talented Flax – who is yet another fine international advertisement for the South African bred thoroughbred.

His sire Silvano has enjoyed a magnificent season in 2012-2013, and is set to be crowned South Africa’s champion sire at the end of the month. Currently the world’s leading sire of Gr1 winners, Silvano’s local stakes winners for the 2012-2013 season include no fewer than five individual Grade One winners.

Silvano has 11 lots on sale at the 2yo Sale:

Lot 27 is a colt out of a three time winner, from the family of leading international sires, and champions, Kris and Diesis.

Lot 51 is a half-sister to a recent winner. Her dam is a full sister to a stakes horse, and this is the wonderful Enchanting family.

Lot 112 is a full brother to this season’s classy 3yo, Act Fast. The colt is out of a mare by champion Fasliyev and this is the family of the all time great mare, Allez France.

Lot 121 is a half-brother to 2 winners, out of a very classy sprinting mare. >From the family of champion Mythical Flight, this colt is from a very speedy family.

Lot 258 is a half-sister to 4 winners, including G3 winner Bit On The Side. Bred on the same Silvano/Jallad cross as Met hero Martial Eagle.

Lot 286 is a half-brother to a winner out of a mare by ELliodor (same cross responsible for champion Aslan). This colt is a three parts brother to Silvano’s champion Kings Gambit.

Lot 297 is a colt out of a Western Winter half-sister to the Gr1 performer Redcarpet Style. This is the family of current superstar Cherry On The Top.

Lot 329 is a half-brother to 2 winners, including recent Gr3 Sycamore Sprint heroine Kinematic Countess. He is out of a very speedy mare, who is a stakes winner of seven.

Lot 336 is a half-brother to 5 winners, including a Grade One sprinter, and a five time stakes winner. His dam is a winning daughter of champion broodmare sire Northern Guest.

Lot 338 is a full brother to a three time winner. His dam is a three time winning half-sister to a stakes winner, and this is a top international family, whose members include the Breeders Cup winner Sheikh Albadou.

Lot 358 is a half-sister to 3 winners, including a black type horse. His dam, who won three, is by top broodmare sire Qui Danzig out of a stakes winner.

For more info on Flax, his sire and Silvano’s offspring on sale at the 2yo sale, please contact the TBA office on (011) 323 5700.

FIRST OF A LEGEND ON SALE IN SA

The Emperors Palace National 2yo Sale represents a rare opportunity for South African buyers to acquire a juvenile by one of Europe’s best loved racing legends of the past ten years.

The Gary Player Stud Farm are proud to offer the first horse by the mighty Yeats to sell in South Africa at the 2yo Sale.

Yeats is the only horse ever to win the prestigious G1 Gold Cup for four years running. The handsome son of the immortal sire Sadler’s Wells won the Royal Ascot showpiece event from 2006-2009 – with his final victory causing scenes rarely seen at the Royal meeting.

Champion stayer on four occasions, Yeats won 15 races – of which 14 were features! The champion won no fewer than seven G1 races, including the Coronation Cup, Irish St Leger and Prix Royal Oak (French St Leger). In total, Yeats won over GBP 1 200 000 in an unforgettable career.

He was subsequently retired to Coolmore Stud - the former home of his legendary sire.

The Irish bred Yeats filly, catalogued as lot 281, is out of a mare by champion sire Danehill Dancer, and, is thus bred on the world famous Sadler’s Wells/Danehill nick made immortal by Frankel. The filly’s dam, Lady L, is a half-sister to the top-class, Group One performer Livadiya, and this is the family of multiple G1 winner, and sire, Linngari.

What price on Yeats making more history?

OUTSTANDING YOUNG SIRES WELL REPRESENTED ON 2YO SALE

Two of South Africa’s most exciting young sires, Antonius Pius and Judpot, are strongly represented on the 2013 Emperors Palace National 2yo Sale.
Antonius Pius and Judpot finished 1-2 on last season’s first crop sires list, with less than R50 000 separating them.

Highlands Farm’s Antonius Pius, an outstanding miler himself, was represented by 7 juvenile winners in his first crop, which included the stakes winner Antonius Du Bois, My Sanctuary and Yoshie.
Antonius Pius’ first local crop also included Ace Antonius – winner of the inaugural KZN Yearling Sale Million.
The son of Danzig (also sire of National Assembly) has 13 lots on the sale, and they look sure to be popular.

Lot 21 is a half-brother to 2 winners. His dam, by champion sire Fort Wood, is a three parts sister to the Oaks placed Aspen Secret, and this is the family of legendary US racemare Personal Ensign.

Lot 99 is a full brother to a winner, and a half-brother to a three time winner. His dam is a half-sister to an eight time stakes winner in North America.

Lot 314 is a half-brother to four winners, including the stakes placed Minette. Second dam is Guineas winner Muscovy – herself a half-sister to Gr1 winner Vistula.

Lot 346 could be one of the stars lots of the sale. She is an own sister to inaugural KZN Yearling Sale Million winner Ace Antonius – who has already earned over R700 000 in prize money!

Lot 356 is a colt whose dam, by world leading sire and broodmare sire Arch, won four times. Bred on the powerful Danzig/Roberto cross, this colt is from the family of 14 time stakes winner Adhocracy.

Varsfontein Stud’s Judpot is one of the most exciting sires to come to South Africa in many a year. He achieved a remarkable feat when two of his first crop runners (Along Came Polly and Forest Indigo) won Grade One races.
Already the sire of four black type horses, Judpot is clearly a young sire of the highest order!
