South African Apprentice Franklin Maleking has just won the apprentice race in Chantilly. Congratulations to Franklin and of course his riding master Gary Waterston who is in France with him. Another special moment for South African racing. *post by Debbie Hawkins on FB*...(tu)(tu)

The Neighmaster mentioned it before the race on Tellytrack....(tu), and therefore I watched....great ride as the front two went many lengths clear...and although he was on the favourite...it must have taken lots to keep his pace and not chase down the leaders...great ride....

Actually let me say this, I think the current group of appies are actually pretty strong. Malikeng, Mariba, Lembethe, Dillon, Zackey not to mention Juglall, Teetan and the like.

I do think there are some very promising guys coming through!! Good for the riding masters and all at Summerveld and in Jozi!!

There will be another young man coming through in the next year or two......his name is Gareth de Wet......last name sound familiar?? :D
