I am interested, and in the records, how much is the keep p/m average in total including vetting over six month period.

boys take this from some one who "invest" millions over many year in race horse. take the number of grade races in south africa. divide by total number then divide by half to allow for multiple winners. that fraction of 1 percent is the chance you have to own a horse who will fill your dream. dont you worry about breeder and trainer who fill your head with bull shit, they have the ulterior motive, after all they make the money even if you have the donkey. owning race horse is the vanity for the ego i dont care who tell you " leading the winner in is the greatest feeling you will have". this is bull shit you think it is greatest feeling because this is what is told you and your ego is now stoked. when you do the sums of buying horse, trainer fee, vet fee all the other costs, you will soon realise it is the stupidity to buy a race horse. take the best advice you will ever get and never buy a horse. let any one who has the horse hear come and tell me they made money owning horses over any period longer than the 3 years and i will say they are the liar. this game is sold to you as the dream when it is simply those that make money out of you that tell the story.

you cant blame trainer for being the bull shit artist, this is how he make hes living, no? how many horses i own that are "showing a lot", "this is some thing special", "this is beeting so and so in the gallops" BEFORE they see the race track. after it run 49/50 the stories is start "he need time", "he need gelding", "he need to grow in him self" "the jocky rode that bad", "we got taken out in the race" blah blah blah so another 6 months of being robbed. no boys i can tell you some stories of trainer bull shit believe me. the problem is we all WANT to believe we have the next July winner so we listen to this trainers. Only 1 partner in agreement win

Leading a winner in is an amazing feeling. Racing needs to been as a hobby, with no expectations of making a profit, or even to cover costs. Be prepared to write off the monthly costs entirely.
But let's not forget that if we do not have owners, there is also no racing. Unless punters are prepared to punt on virtual horses that cost us nothing monthly to feed.

I think you are generalizing a bit - some of 'us' have been lucky enough to be in front (10 years in my case) - have to admit it was one horse that did the bussiness - but I was also 'lucky' enough to sort of break square on most of the others - I would advise anyone who has the financial ability and the love for the game to try it out - as long as you 'treat it as a hobby' and don't go overboard, I can't see the problem?

Stakes have fallen way behind the cost of racing horses. Very difficult to break square in the past, now much harder. That visited to the number one box will cost you plenty
