Speed ratings for main contenders with previous Vaal Sand form –

Each distance at VS has a different ‘first order’ criteria for making selections.
In the 1200m races those drawn above 7 are eliminated for PA and quartet floating banker purposes unless there is evidence to show that the horse is not disadvantaged by a wide draw…Funny Glory is a good example. Whilst this may only be true 80-20, 70-30, 60-40% of the time it an aspect of paramount importance.

Race 1 MJP-F 1000m
..
..
37...MAGICAL CREATION.
No previous sand form to go on, and whilst good turf form is often not transferable to the sand (especially in the more classier races) it does have some value in juvenile races. Top performing sand trainers represented here are STP and MDK with All the Tens and Tamayim. No clarity with draw advantages / disadvantages over 1000m!

Race 2 MDN 1000m
77…RAPID BEAT
75…TEMPERED STEEL
73…TORNADO TWISTER
70…HIGHLAND LAD
69…BANJO BAY
??…GABRONZA
MGA is the top VS trainer and therefore the new stable inmate Gabronza is of interest, especially as the top 4 rated have all shown inconsistent form recently.
The 3 KGN runners also look interesting here.

Race 3 MDN 1600m
72…HOBB’S FLIGHT
66…LUNAR DESTINY
59…LEAD BY APPROVAL
On form Lunar Destiny looks far too short in the betting…even though the breeding suggests this is more his trip and Striker is up - cannot go with him. However, field is weak and Hobb’s Flight is a XOXOXO horse yet will include him for the PA along with one other from 1,2 or 15.

Race 4 MR 80 1600m
102…KEAGAN’S JET
100…MCALLISTOR
..99…SPECTROSCOPE
..97…DISCO BOY
..95…HUNTER VALLEY
..93…BARON ZEMO
Thought Keagan’s Jet was a good price in this open event. Likely to make Spectroscope the other PA selection. Not keen on Mcallistor or Disco Boy.

Race 5 COND-F 1450m
107…MAGIC SMOKE
105…TALLY BLUE
105…DRAGON VEIN
103…SHATTERED IMAGE
..99…LUCKY HAND
..98…SMART GIRL
Magic Smoke has shown good form but the price ridiculous! Biggest challenge likely from stable inmates, shall incl. the RRM couplings in the P6. Also respect STP and SGT runners Lucky Hand and Jet Set Model yet a big jump up in class for them. Still have a preference for the lower draws…Tally Ho!

Race 6 MR 76 1200m
99…MEMGHAR
93…TAKAAMUL
92…AUTHENTICATED
88…WHITE SQUALL
88…CELTIC KING
85…START YOUR ENGINES
??…ROCKINGANDROLLING (95)
Out goes Takaamul because of the draw, whilst Memghar has shown some fair form from poor draws, as has White Squall. The ‘off form’ Rockingandrolling can upset if finding a glimmer of his ‘not to distant’ previous good form…tricky race.

Race 7 MR 90 1200m
102…HALLOWED
100…BENBOW
..99…COMMISSIONERSTREET
..98…DENNIS THE MENACE
..98…CANTE LIBRE
..98…HANG FIRE
..97…FALL OF TROY
Benbow and Hang Fire probably better over 1000m, poor lto for Hallowed…Commissionerstreet appeals here.

R8 MR 64 F 1200m
80…SHOW AND TELL
78…HARD TO RESIST
76…FAB CAT
76…FOR FRELUCHE
74…SPIRITOFAMPHIRITE
72…SUMMER SARI
Fab Cat, Show and Tell and For Freluche are well drawn and have shown fair form for this class. Summer Sari has the best ‘old’…this time last year, good draw and GL.

R9 MR 64 F 1200m
86…BOUJIS
84…VELVET JAR
80…BURNING EMBERS
78…BEAUTIFUL DAWN
78…SAVANNAH MONTANA
74…FLYING WENDY
Again throwing out those drawn above 7, at least for PA and quartet bankers, so there goes the favourite Boujis. Best old form belongs to Beautiful Dawn, Velvet Jar, Flying Wendy and Burning Embers who are all well drawn.

Thank you THH lovely preview. (tu)

Very competitive card today with the only standout looking like Magic Smoke who is weighted to win easily and could be hard to peg back if getting away. Lucky Hand could be better than rated after her impressive sand debut but might not be up to beating Magic Smoke.

Some outsiders I fancy today to look at including in exotics are:
Race 6: Same as THH I really fancy Memghar although in and out we could catch him an in day and at 14/1 is worth a place bet.
Race 7: I like Sermon here has place 5 out of 6 runs over C & D and has competitive form with some of the fancied runners and 16/1 is a resonable price.
Race 8: Very weak and open with 2 recent maiden winners topping the betting boards. Here I like For Freluche well drawn, hopefully will stride out but at 10/1 is worth a bit of a chance.

My PA for today is for R1,296-00 so play a %:
Leg 1: 2,3,14
Leg 2: 5,6,11
Leg 3: 2
Leg 4: 3,4,5,9
Leg 5: 4,6,9,12
Leg 6: 2,5,6
Leg 7: 1,2,6

Play well. (tu)

Magic Smoke is the proven horse but does seem to do better over 1600 than 1450 but with only 56kg's on her back she should be too good. Like I said earlier I recon Lucky Hand could be much better than rated and if she can beat Magic Smoke on these terms will certainally be something special on the surface. I feel Magic Smoke's class will prevail.
