Trainers in 2012/2013
12 years 1 month ago
170 trainers have had runners
15 have not had a winner from 403 runners. 0 % strike rate
10 have 1 winner each from 529 runners 2 % strike rate
8 have had 2 winners each from 615 runners 3 % strike rate
9 have had 3 winners from 443 runners 6 % strike rate
10 have had 4 winners each from 929 runners 4 % strike rate
11 have had 5 winners each from 896 runners 6 % strike rate
4 have had 6 winners each from 371 runners 6 % strike rate
9 have had 7 winners each from 1465 runners 4 % strike rate
6 have had 8 winners each from 761 runners 6 % strike rate
4 have had 9 winner each from 754 runners 4 % strike rate
total 82 trainers.
None of these trainers have made a million in stakes either after 9 months of the season.
104 trainers in total have yet to break a million in stakes after 9 months of the season. actual average is 360k stakes per these 104 trainers
if these trainers have anything less than 10 horses on their books i dont figure how they survive.
any answers!!

They must be doing it for the love of the game and the horses. Heard that at Arlington one day many years ago. And this is a very serious post in a very serious thread.
I feel for these guys

let me ask my next question. If more than half the trainers are doing this for the love of horses and not to make a profit.
How do they pay their Creditors, Feed Bills, Bedding, Gold Circle, Phulelela, Farrier or Vets?
How do they secure the better quality Grooms,Services etc.
When Kit/Tack breaks how do they fund repairs?
What chance does a horse in their care have vs. a yard actually making a profit out of this?

11 years a long time. 30% less trainers in SA.
In the 2023/2024 season we have seen 119 trainers.
Probably still 30 or so to many trainers at current ownership levels and stakes levels.
Some new guys doing really well and some older yards struggling to get horses.
