Of course they can - all depend on the 2yr old and the quality of the older horses - just recently I ended up with egg on my face when saying that the 2yr old Santa Clarita may not be up to it against some older fillies - she won easily.
Their MR's should be allocated taking into account the MR's of the horses they beat, so they should get a 'fair' rating - just my opinion

Sometimes a clever trainer will rather have a go in a Maiden with exposed battlers than go in a Maiden Juv where you don't have an idea how much the babies have improved. Far too many Trainers are afraid to run their babies agains older scrap and pay the price - I like youngsters in sprints but am a little wary when they go ground against their elders as they sometimes don't have the strength to win though they have speed. As I often say there is no guarantee than a slow 2yr old will become a fast 3ry old so race them - Boxed horses only earn money for the Trainer and his auxiliary team.

I agree with Mr H. I like 2 year olds for any races up to 1400 meters. Usually back to beat them over 1600 plus although Mr De Kock though a spanner in the works with that theory last week, I suppose there has to be an exception.

Yes in handicaps according to the WFA scale, but not in maidens and plated races, there they will usually look 'out at the weights' because they only get 2,3 or 4 kg's (depending on the distance and the time of year) and not the full WFA allowance they 'should' be entitled to - that's why Molly often goes against them - but sometimes they are good enough to defy the 'disadvantage'

Actually Frodo 2yo's do get allowances in plated and maiden races but just not as much as in handicaps..ie in a maiden or any plate race at this time of the season over 1400m they get 4kg's allowance but in a handicap over 1400m they get 11kg's ..big difference between allowance received in plated races as opposed to handicaps
