Guys, the point is he was found guilty of being Negligent and not of cheating.Chippy can confirm this but when the jocks are getting weighed the clerk of the scales will probably hand the jocks weights, then its up to the jocks to saddle them. You would have to be the dumbest fuck in the world to think you would get away with anything dodgy at the scales...
Jocks need to be punished and punished hard when they make errors, but this punishment is way to severe imo...

He probably had the lead in his hand when weighing out and got distracted when putting the lead into the patritions on the side of the bag. Or he had a whole lot of lead and put the ones he was supposed to put in to the side and put what left into the bag by mistake. Not the kind of Kid to do it on purpose. Gavin Howes got life when they proved he did it deliberately.

Have just come across this thread.
What happens to all to come bets taken with this horse.
Took a treble with Beach Beauty, Which Doctor and Variety Club.
Unfortunately , I also threw my ticket away.

Witch doctor was a runner and was placed last, it was not scratched. So tour ticket is a losing one.

It's a mistake that can happen.
Trainers have also forgotten a lead bag on the side when saddling
Lead bags have come out from under the saddle during a race
From now on GVN will always make sure he puts his lead in after he has weighed.
He never hid his bag away or hide the fact that he had made a mistake.
Wether it is a half kg or 5kgs, it is on the jockey to weigh out at the correct weight and make sure that the correct saddle leaves The weigh room. After that it is out his hands and the responsibility falls to the trainer until the horse gets to the start where the jock should check his kit again before the off. Some light guys wouldn't know that lead was missing as some ride with over 10pcs of lead at anytime so there is always lead in the bag
Almost every jock has made a similar mistake once in their career and are not at all trying to cheat the system
I almost forgot to weigh in the other day after talking to a stipe about my ride, walked right past the scale and was called back, thank goodness. An outsider with 60kgs, didnt improve but would cost me a month on the side lines.

Impossible to do... Every jock has to weigh out to get a number... It's the weigh in that is being disputed.
Otherwise the clerk of scales is at fault!

Jocks have also forgotten to put stirrup and leathers on their saddles or girths and even their sponges sometimes...
Only if the horse doesn't get saddled is it possible to walk away without a penalty of some sort
Since the Gavin Howes incident, the weigh ins are well policed as EVERY jock has to weigh back. Before only the 1st 6 or 7 would weigh and any selected jocks that the clerk wanted to weigh
We are allowed 900 grams over but only 400 grams under, apart from wet or extremely hot weather, any deviation from the norm is dealt with at inquiry.
Every licensed person receives a Rule book and this is considered ones 1st warning, regardless of incident.
