Titch I never make a mistake, lol.

I don't agree with your assessment he made a mistake yes and needs a suspension, I would say 2 weeks. So if someone does nothing wrong for 70 years the commits murder was say he is only human and done nothing wrong for 70 years before so give him another chance. All jockeys know there is punishment for dropping their hands and even though he has a clean record until yesterday needs so form of suspension or fine. 1st offense not heavy but some kind of punishment.

A suspended sentence would be the right way to go, but to take away a mans livelihood for 6 or even 3 months on a 1st offense is way OTT...nobody died, he made a mistake, something 'im sure we all are guilty of to some degree...although reading some of the posts on this thread has led me to truly believe that we do indeed live with saints among us...
Give everything but up!

he stood up 20m from the line in the sixth too - He needs to be reminded of the rule that you must ride out until the line - I don't think he is being malicious but he must remember that he is paid to ride until the line.
I have always rated him as a rider but he must never forget that owners and punters fund the game. I hope he learns from this and becomes SA Champ one day.

ITS NOT A MISTAKE TO STOP RIDING BEFORE THE LINE OR WAAAY BEFORE THE LINE,IT IS DELIBERATE AND THEREFOR MUST BE HIT HARD FOR COSTING THE PUNTERS A 3RD PLACE BET, THE PA ,TRIFECTA AND QUARTET......WHO IS GOING TO PAY THE R3200 HE ROBBED THE OWNER OFF FOR RUNNING A LUCKY 4TH (ALMOST CAUGHT BY THE 5TH PLACED HORSE)???????
HE WON ON THE HORSE BEFORE AND HOPEFULLY NEVER GET THE RIDE AGAIN....DONT DESERVE IT

GOOD JOCKEY AND GREAT BUBBLY PERSONALITY BUT NEED TO GET HIS ACT TOGETHER AGAIN......WILL BE GOOD TO GO REST A WHILE AND RETURN TO THE GAME HUNGER TO WIN OR TO GIVE HIS BEST AGAIN AND PROVE HIS WORTH

After watching the replay the only thing I could think of is that he thought his mount was beaten and didn't want to persevere? The only problem with that thinking is that putting his hands down cost the horse 3rd. That is inexcusable.

He is more than likely going to serve some kind of suspended sentence but at some point don't we have to trust the jocks to make decisions on board for the health and welfare of the horse?

Putting your hands down comes with the following penalties, if correct.
1st place 3 months
2nd place 2months
3rd place 1month
4th place 2 weeks
5th place fine equal to stake for 5th

These can be substituted for monetary fines and depend on the jocks previous records

Stopping a horse from obtaining its best possible placing comes with a whole different penalty and each case is looked at independently.

I might be wrong here, but watching the race I am convinced he eased the horse out of the race feeling something amiss. Even though the vet reported nothing in terms of possible injury something might have shown up today.

THE VETERINARY SURGEON REPORTED:
a) TURBO TOM – examined post race, nothing obvious detected.

He was not given a soft ride and David was not scared in using the whip either. I will await the outcome of the inquiry before passing judgement.

Harris do the vets examine all the horses or the ones connections think may have a problem
If the jockey thought TT had sustained an injury during the race and stated that prior to his
ride coming under scrutiny that is a different matter all together

Does the Jock not have to report to the stipes that he thought something amiss with the horse?

If the jockey thinks there is something wrong with the horse or was something wrong with the horse then he is obliged to report it to the stipes on returning to the jockey room and they will get the vet to check it out. The stipes can also ask the vet to check a horse if they think it has run below par.
