around 1997-1999

A favourate of mine...because he won July as a 3yr old he must be right up there with the best...was placed again in the July and Met...beat Jet Master a few times didnt he.

one of my fav horses because i backed him for weeks for july and he duly obliged.first 3yr old to carry 53kgs and 18 draw and he gave delpech his 1st july winner.d ferraris was my fav trainer and he said this horse was a freak.i was at kenilworth wen jet master with s randolph up beat classic flag with striker up by a short head with striker claiming he misjudged where the winning line was.lol.needless to say striker was jocked off and replaced by delpech who went on to win his 1st july.

As per Flash Harry below, my facts were wrong.

muis roberts win one july and it were on super quality from david ferrari stable winzip is right delpech ride the horse

Super Quality won 97 July, I came back from a month long stint in PE to do Muis' kit on the Day

Classic Flag won July 98, I was stable appie to Ferraris + did Duty for the stable at Gosforth Park on the Day.

The only Top Horse smaller than him that I have ridden is Teal...
In the stable, I rated him 2nd only to HK export Speedy Dollar, by far the best true stayer I have ever ridden.

The late Professor Herbst owned Classic Flag he was a very lucky owner as he also owned Summer Line that good filly and he also owned another filly I think her name was Kokkowiet Prof H was not a big buyer but was very lucky if i remember Classic Flag only cost 20000 rand ,just a bit of the past..

I remember backing Classic Flag and it having a bad draw but won we were at the Harlequins that day and made plenty (Georgie the Greek ) included

The stable story was that Prof Herbst actually only paid R10k as he had received vouchers before the sale for the other R10k.

thanks chippy you are right only 10 in cash I think Clifton Stud bred Classic Flag that just goes to show you how lucky Prof was and he was also a very good betting man ,when you got to know him he was a great gentleman .

One of my favourites, for sure. He finished 1st, 2nd and 4th in the July.

Checking his record shows:

1st -> 2 * Gr1, 3 * Gr2, 1 * Gr3
2nd -> 5 * Gr1
3rd -> 1 * Gr1, 2 * Gr3

That's a total of 6 GR wins and 14 GR top 3 finishes.
