I hope Bernard Faydherbe gets suspended......
12 years 9 months ago
Guys and gals,
I know this is a bit late, but i haven't forgotten about it.
Did any of you see or remember his ride on Beulah last week in the last race, i think it was last week Wednesday. He gave the horse a right royal thrashing all the way to the line! Wasn't there some sort of rule put in place for the amount of consecutive slaps you are allowed to give a horse? Well, i lost count and then nearer to the line he gave the poor horse a DOUBLE smack!! I couldn't believe what i was seeing. Like i say in the subject line.....i hope he gets a good suspension for this!
Does anyone know if he was fined or been questioned about the ride?
If someone could put the race replay up here, then everyone can see what i am talking about.

Beulah Drew 4 Red, yellow hoop, red sleeves, yellow armbands, red cap, yellow peak
and 3 days later (drew 6)
Beulah
looks like he may have been out of his ground in the 1st run, he rides the horse very vigourously but only pulls the stick once in the last 200m and once just before the line PK?? and then raced a lot more handy in the next start and won

His stick is in his left hand not his right,he goes thru a gap between 2 horses and rides with the hands...he is not hitting the horse with his right hand and only pulls the stick in the last furlong.. are you referring to the race that he won or ran 5th??

Have not watched yet.... but I understand why we all read form differently :
... we even interpret live visuals in a different way

I am referring to the race that he won. He was hitting that horse every single stride and then a double klap about 50 metres out.

I am really not sure Titch, but i thought the rule was like 3 smacks in a row, but i am really not sure. It wasn't great to watch it though. He should then be brought to book for that double smack near to the finish line.

The rule is 10-12 times behind the saddle + not more than 3 in a row or with intent force.
Since his stint from Dubai, I have noticed that Bernard is pushing out much longer before going for his stick...
Something he changed, looking similar in style to his new mate Christophe Soumillion.
His strike rate last season is proof that this kinder approach seems to work for him.
Please don't confuse "showing" the whip to whipping.
To the untrained eye it can be misleading.

Chippy, i admit to having an untrained eye, that's why i wanted someone to post the replay and then you trained eyes can tell me what happened. To me this horse was struck a LOT more than 3 times WITH INTENT and then a double smack before the finishing line.
I am saying if that wasn't smacking then please tell me, but i cannot view replays due to blocking of websites at my work. I watched the race live and then the replay immediately after and to me this horse must have been struck close to 10 times in a row (not exactly sure of the number as explained) and then a double smack near to the line.
This was out of line from the jockey in my opinion

@ PeeKay, i have pointed this out to the stipes on more than one occasion over the last few years...even spoken to Garth Puller about it...like you i have an untrained eye...apparantly he is not hitting the horse (it sure looks like it to me)...on more than one occassion i have counted him "thrashing" horses on more than 5 consecutive strides....plus he is heavier than most...
My concern was prompted because i had horses with the Bass yard.

The "double" smack is only 2 in a row, as long as there is a stride between the next whip, it is within the rules.
It is near impossible to hit a horse twice in 1 stride.
So in theory we can hit 12 single times with a stride or 2 in between or we can "double" hit 6 times with strides inbetween, as long as their is no intent to do harm and the horse is responding or maintaining his stake earning position.
The only Intent is to win
As with any rule there is discretion. So a lazy horse from the jump may get a few more as long as he is competitive, responded and whips are not intense
It is also possible for a jock to whip only once or twice and be suspended because it was done with excessive force or marks were left, also very difficult to do with the cushioned whips.
