After yesterdays mud we go to Vaal’s sand racing and let’s hope we can pick up where we left off yesterday. A nine race card awaits.
Race 1: Strikers mount Geolina has plenty going for it besides the jockey but this is far more competitive than appears at first glance. Tread warily. Two outsiders that I like to potentially run into the places are Lovely Luline and Virginia Sound. Dixon raids with Laid Back and Figurine must also have a chance. Not a race to spend money on.
Race 2: Put the lights out on Kruger Gold
Race 3: Tough race here with question marks around the fancied runners. I cannot believe Striker takes the ride on Tripmaster. Form is poor. I like Alamein to give us a run for our money at hopefully long odds. Crystal Jack for my optimist swinger though may need one more run.
Race 4: Video Games if taking to the sand should be the business. Cadillac Baby for swingers.
Race 5: Have a small each way on Taste of Honey which should be very long odds. Phi game as they come but has a big weight to shoulder. This race has UPSET written all over it.
Race 7: Back to a more suitable distance I expect Al Felon to be competitive but no good thing. President Elect very honest and will go close despite the poor draw. Definitely worth an each way nibble if in double digit odds.
Race 8: Think Again and Maria K should be enough here for exotics with the preference for the former.
Race 9: I reckon the fairly moderate animal Sucha Wonder will not get much easier chance to win her second race. 8/1 not a bad price. Little Venice big runner but 7/2 not appealing. Cover exotics with a few here as is a weak open MR68 F&M’s and anything can happen.

PA plays…16Aug’12 Vaal Sand
Many of the races look to be closely contested, and whilst there appears to be some solid PA selections it ‘feels’ to me that a few upsets are more probable than just possible.
Race 5 feels awkward as well as races 3+4 and these seem the hardest on the card, the last 4 look easier.
The following ‘fancies’ look poor value – R3 Nautica 12/10, R7 The Angelus 4/1 (even though she was nominated for 4 of the races on today’s card), R9 Performing Light 33/10.
Bankers in the short PA are R7 Al Felon, R8 Maria K and R9 Sucha Wonder.
SHORT PA: 4,13+17 x 1,5+10 x 1,7+8 x 2+3 x 2 x 7 x 4 = 54 perms
LONG PA: 4,13+17 x 1,5+10 x 1,7+8 x 2+3 x 2+5 x 2+7 x 1+4 = 432 perms
Happy Horseplaying
(The yardstick for measuring the success of the above is based on an investment of +/- R32 per PA, today the short PA would be 54 perms @ 60% = R32.40 and the long PA is 432 @ 7% = R30.30, R64.30 I total.
To date, for 3 postings from 12 July, the amount staked is R192.70 and the return currently stands at NIL).
