London 2012

As I watch the closing ceremony to the Olympics with some regret, I'd just like to congratulate all those who contributed from the organisers and athletes to the volunteer helpers and the fans for making London 2012 such an enjoyable spectacle. I hope I am not bias in saying so but, I certainly can't remember enjoying an Olympic Games so much. I have felt enormous pride in the success of my fellow countrymen. But equally, I have felt the pain of so many of the athletes, irrespective of their nationality, who just failed or saw 4 years of planning disappear in a simple mistake and shared the joy of those who have won gold or been so happy at the level of their own personal performance. I have wiped an eye more than once for all those reasons. Thanks to them all, I hope they will all remember and hold close the memories of the last two weeks. I also hope that the feeling of greater spectator involvement continues in future Olympics, there was something very special in these Games that saw everyone pulling together, as though it truly was an event for all. I don my cap to them all. Wonderful stuff (tu)

I've been to my fair share of sporting events and this Olympics is undoubtedly up there with anything I have witnessed. Managed to catch some athletics and swimming and I was overwhelmed at times by the atmosphere and feeling of support. Granted Team GB doing so well took the Olympics to the next level but there was huge support for Phelps, Bolt and all the other champion athletes too. I was at the stadium when Oscar ran his 400m semi and he received a brilliant ovation that was fit for a gold medal winner.

London can be proud, there arent many cities that can pull off an Olympics like this.

Massive success from start to finish and put the Great back in Britain , well done to all involved from the athletes, spectators, volunteers and organizers.
Some great performances but Bolt, Bolt and Jamaica treble very special.

Just got back yesterday from England ... tremendous atmosphere and support everywhere for their teams, and for the Olympics in general. Even on the tube people were chatting about it and normally no-one says a thing on the tube ... usually they are as silent as if they were all going to their own funerals.

I must say too that the transport, which I used a lot in and around London these past 4 weeks, was wonderful, never too overcrowded and never experienced any breakdowns. Of course that probably happened somewhere but my own experience was 100% positive.

I didn't have a chance to watch anything live ... too busy ... but the TV was pretty good with one or two gripes. Main gripe was the same as I sometimes feel about SA TV, i.e. too much talking from presenters. Especially in the freestyle dressage, which is done to music, I could have done without some twerp yakking all the way through it. But hey! It was still beautiful to watch.
