That nice colt who won the Belmont Stakes was retired earlier this morning. His connections don't think the stress and expense of getting him back to the track is worth jeopordizing his career at stud.
Again, a top 3 year old is out because of injury.
I know it can happen to any horse but these triple crown races run so close to one another in conjunction with a hard campaign to qualify is just too much.
The Yanks believe that, without a good 2 year old "base" or enough experience, horses cannot win the Kentucky Derby......
I'm not sure I agree, but with the way the qualification through stakes stand, the trainers have not much choice but to run them early and often........
Barry, all you need to do is win the Derby with a 3 year old who never races as a juvenile......Now that will throw the proverbial cat amongst the pidgeons
