South African racecallers -- an Australian perspective

WE get South African racing each night, coming in from about 8 pm / 1 am. I really enjoy using Betfair and watch regularly.
I would rate the caller from Capetown the best followed by the Turfontein/Vaal caller, but easily the worst the caller that does Fairview and Arlington. Also the picture quality from those two tracks is really poor.

How do the KZN commentators come across? I think Craig Peters does very well although his son Sheldon does go over the top at times and too much emphasis on the favorite.

We shouldn't allow someone from Australia to comment negatively on
our race callers. Their callers are no great shakes and constantly we get
background noises when the mike is on and they are not calling

FYI the English guys in the studios in the UK love Dumpy but they also love to laugh at him.
One thing they do mention a lot is how they call the result in tight finishes,uk commentators usually let the judges call tight finishes..

PS there are plenty of AUS members of this site and AUS ip addresses are our 3rd biggest visitors..

Sorry I was just a bit defensive becauce Allan Schoeman is a really good guy and more often than not gets close calls right. I agree it is an open forum and apologise for any offence it was not meant

I have heard Trevor Denman at Santa Anita, and I like most of your callers, particularly the Cape Town race broadcaster.

I must say that I am very impressed with Alistor in Jhb..on Sat I took some friends to Turf and he let 2 ladies sit in and watch him commentate on one of the races..these 2 ladies are both very high powered business women and were extremely impressed with his professionalism and his interaction with them. Well done Ally!

Hey Kosbar, if you think the picture quality from Fairview/Arlington is poor then please pray for us when we see pictures from Ngong (Kenya)..
