He is retiring to stud....tendon injury......sad day for SA racing as he was about to travel the world but a great scoop for SA breeding as he will be standing here.

Before he embarrassed himself.... he is good, very good but no super dooper star
Maybe I am just bitter cause Variety club gave him a klap at K to put me out of all my bets.

GMTGL is a beautifull looking specimen,i love the picture of him jumping up on the beach that Hibby had on our front page.It is sad that people are upset, and are having a go because they had him in a competition.Spare a thought to the owners that have lost a champion due to a injury, plus what a huge blow as this horse had the pedigree to be another champion in SA,as his proven in such a short time.

When all that debate was going on I remember posting that Joey Ramsden had mentioned that he was loath to raid the highveld ..........when he had done so in the past ,even successfully ,the horses had not retur.
ned to their old selves.
It certainly seems to have a very high risk factor
Interesting that Highveld horses also do not have a good record raiding Cape Town and yet both do OK in Natal.......it seems that the fairest test of horses competing against each other, from around the country ,is in Durban.

Great pity.
Look at Bravura, goes to Joburg and isn't the same horse. Tales of Bravery also tried the highveld and couldn't feature.
After a tough Cape Town summer I've always thought sending horses to Joburg is too much too soon, especially for a 3 year old. Yes there's been the odd success story but I would rather give my horse a nice break and have a go at the Durban season.
Btw who was the last 3 year old to win the Queens Plate before GMTGL?
