Just watched an interview with Ray Van Nierk (spelling) announcing a big committment to the Epsom Derby and announcing a ten year sponsorship Deal with Epsom.
He said Britain was blessed to have a great race like the Derby and wants their company to associated with the great race..
Hopefully they will be in the line to take over from Vodacom and push the July forward..

INVESTEC and Epsom have announced a ten-year extension to the Derby festival sponsorship until 2021, a deal they are billing as the biggest sponsorship agreement in British racing history.
The extension, agreed in the fourth year of the original five year contract, means the Investec Derby is reinstated as the richestrace in the UK offering a prize fund of £1,325,000 in 2012.
Epsom managing director Rupert Trevelyan said: "We are delighted that Investec have agreed to extend their sponsorship for a further ten years. They are a fantastic brand to work with, very forward thinking and proactive, and we will continue to work in collaboration with them to develop the Investec Derby Festival. It is only fitting for such a prestigious event like the Derby to have such a high profile, committed and long term partner.
"The recently announced prize money increases were a direct consequence of Investec's intention to strengthen their relationship with Epsom and the Derby Festival. In March we announced an increase of £25,000 to £350,000 for the Investec Oaks, a £50,000 increase to £300,000 for the Diamond Jubilee Coronation Cup (sponsored by Investec), and an increase to £50,000 for the Investec Derby Trial."

And in South Africa the Investec Derby carries a pathetic R600,000 prize.
Which I doubt even fractionally covers the expenses of some of the freeloaders whom they fly over from South Africa to attend the Derby.

The winner of todays trial was granted a supplemenatry entry to the epsom derby worth roughly R600 000,pity it was won by a gelding, maybe they will double next years South Africa Derby now ? (

Isn't it a strange logic that allows horses that are disqualified from the main event to run in the trial (def.....preliminary contest)
Makes the trial a bit pointless and probably demeans the Derby winner...........particularly if it happened to come out of this race!
