Attended the Auction Alliance auction in Sandton last month. Property worth 5 bar goes for 10 bar, feel sorry for the winning bidder. How does he prove he was done in.

This practice from AA has been going on for long time, took one of my friends for R15000, he wanted to sell his property and they approached him after they saw his ad, they asked him for R15000, said the R15000 was to advertise the auction, never saw ads, only a board in front of his property, day of auction there wasn't a lot of people, but the property was "sold ", when my friend wanted to know when will the sale go through and the "purchaser" will be paying the required deposit, then the stories started, which I am not going to bore you with, but eventually he just gave up and realized their was no buyer, the "bidders" was AA own people.
As is always the case Mr Leviit went one step to far when he "cheated" Mrs Wendy Appelbaum, I got such a kick out of seeing him squirm when she wouldn't up her bid not even with R1 m, i actually re winded and look at it twice!!!!!!, he is going to get what he deserves, once CB got hold of you you are done ask Wendy Machink.
what a money making racket, unfortunately AA is not alone auctioneers are all vultures praying on other peoples problems.Note I am not talking about the auctioneers the TB industry uses.

I think on horse auctions their are sellers who bid on their own lots, but I have never got the impression that there were ghost bidders.

I once won a bid of R10 for an engraved glass bottom pewter beer mug at the auctions by bookie Mike O'Connor. The auctioneer was so cheesed off with the bidders that he didnt want to continue and angrily said "sold" to me .... :)

Given that the AA case is often commented on here relates to the fact that the sales mechanism in our business is also auctions. I think it's important to make the distinction that fake bids (where a bid is not buying or taking ownership should the hammer fall) must be fraud if it's in collusion with an auctioneer, compared to an owner or part owner bidding and they will assume ownership on their successful bid.

i think with modern tec around bids should be electronically monitored - very simple Ebay does it all the time- get a hand-held keyboard (electronic paddle) will stop auction fraud
