I personally don't lay anything higher than 10.
Your best profits are when you find a false favourite & lay it.

Warren ,the big difference for me is that laying is/was a long term plan,so I never judged it day by day.
My strategy has always been for 1 year.......I started with a bank on the 1/1/12 with 5000 pounds and I laid each horse to a libility of 5% of balance(made profit in Jan of just over 1000 so liability now 300)
Because it is long term ,laying horses shorter than their value works, and the staking allows you to survive a bad run..........and they do happen.
I also don't/didn't lay above 10/1,but I layed all lowly false prices, not just favourites!

Dave,as you know things have changed in the last week or two................A saffer is the last person to ask.
It is why in my initial post I mention the uncertainty of liquidity.

I am looking at the betting for kenilworth race 2 on betfair.
As it stands, only £3.5k volume has been traded.
You can back the favourite, Wing and a Prayer, for £16 at 3.55, £60 at 3.50 and £8 at 3.25. Volumes offered on other runners are also small.
This is the first time I am looking at betfair prices and volumes for SA racing.
I would be interested in finding out from previous/current users of betfair what the usual liquidity is like on betfair for SA racing (prior to the ban on SA account holders).

Duff, some centres were more utilised than others so it did vary, but I would think that it will take a big knock, and the figures you quote would appear to confirm that.
It will be interesting to see if they keep offering the market or only re-open if the licence application is successful.
