Empress Club had the most amazing cruising speed. That fact that she could break the course record over 1000m at Durbanville tells you how amazing she was. It's impossible to compare these horses, and in fact hardly fair.I still think Empress Club is the best I've seen in SA.

And Sun Classique (remember Dubai and the Balanchine, a race won when just as hopeless as this Met) and Dancer's Daughter (that dead heat with Pocket Power in the July) and ... and ... like you say, the more you think about it the more you can't choose. Still, it's fun to talk up our favourites, isn't it?

Scarlet Lady without doubt the best horse I have ever worked with including Abbey Boy, Bold Tropic, Extra Cover and group winners in the UK. No one will do what she did as they have put all the races on the same day at Scottsville. She got beaten a short head in the equivelant of the Gold medallion against colts with an Appie up and then won the other 3 races. Alan Robertson, Fillies Sprint( that VDR got beaten in) as a 3yr old and is the only 3yr old filly to win the the Gilbeys with Michael Roberts up.

As far as i am concerned, she won against all odds. W ith so much against her she still dug deep to win, a sign of a true champion.
