Nicky Henderson strikes with magnificent seven
BY JAMES BURN 2:12PM 21 NOV2011
TRAINER Nicky Henderson enjoyed a memorable day on Monday when he had seven winners from seven runners.
Henderson was at Kempton to oversee wins for Darlan, Chablais, Whoops A Daisy and Mossley - all ridden by Barry Geraghty - while Owen Glendower and Foxbridge - partnered by Andrew Tinkler - went in at Ludlow.
"I think that is the first seven for me, it's certainly the first seven from seven," said Henderson, who had five winners on Friday.
The results - which paid just over 66-1 in a seven-fold accumulator - left bookmakers counting the cost of the day.
Victor Chandler's Charlie McCann said: "It would be fair to say that the language was slightly stronger than Whoops A Daisy when Mossley became the final winner in the trainer's seven-timer.
"One of our customers had £100 accas with and without Whoops A Daisy."
Betfred's George Primarolo said: "On a sleepy Monday afternoon, Nicky Henderson's magnificent seven have ridden into town and robbed us blind - we've been ambushed!"
Henderson's triumphs evoked memories of Frankie Dettori's magnificent seven at Ascot in 1996 when the jockey went through the card.
The trainer's achievements across three tracks took just over an hour and a half with Darlan and Mossley winning the 12.30 and 2.05 at Kempton.
Henderson had intended to have eight runners on Monday and would not have been able to claim a 100 per cent strike-rate with his representatives as Wise Move was set to line up against Darlan in Kempton's opener. However, he was withdrawn just before the start.
Darlan was cut to 12-1 (from 20) by Victor Chandler for the Stan James Supreme Novices' Hurdle, while Chablais earned a quote of 25-1 from Boylesports for the RSA Chase.
