all weather sand tracks in south africa
13 years 6 months ago
we must be the only country in the racing world that has 2 pathetic sand tracks that cannot handle rain...surely there should be a full scale enquiry into how this happened and action taken ...its time we take our heads out of our backsides in this country and realise the industry is being run as third world

There is a clear distinction between sand tracks and all weather tracks. We have sand tracks here,ie:a cheap alternative to grass tracks.Who ever said that they were supposed to be rainproof?

Interesting that the stipe was clear in his opinion that the amount of rain should not have created an unsafe situation....I assume the track manager needs to be replaced, just for starters

Yes rob you may be correct . This issue was raised on the forum before . I also called Phumelela and Spoke to a mr Borges a while back . I had noticed that after P Millers death the kimberly track started running heavier (slower) than usual . I know nothing about preparing that track ..........vok it anyway whats the use of repeating
bla bla bla , i'm sick of it seems they can't manage their staff !!

Au contrere mon ami, you are to be commended for not having an all weather track, because they universally are help in bad repute by on-track veterinarians, who complain that they cause too much soft tissue (tendons, ligaments) damage. They seem fine to train on, but as for racing, they come with a whole host of problems. If they ever do implement them, I hope that Tapeta is the surface of choice, as it has the least complaints among all of the surfaces. All weather tracks have nearly put California out of the racing business.
