SA Jockey Team

Congrats to all of Marcus, Delpech, Yeni, Coetzee...Strydom, Marwing and Brown on their selection to the team.

Personally i feel Karl Neisius should have been included...he has been Cape champion jockey many times and rides his share of big race winners.

I know many dislike him but his record speaks for itself, he deserves his national colours.

Does anyone agree with me...

Was also a bit surprised no Cape jockey was chosen... Do you think Strydom or Marwing deserve their selection?

Brown before those two imo....

Hi FC

I do agree with you P Strydom is probably the jockey with the least interpersonal skills as he has found himself on the wrong side of more people than K Neisius in his stardom career.

As for Brown, Marwing and Coetzee i hardly support them in SA racing. I've lost too much money on them in the past.

For interest how is the team chosen, who selects them?? I presume the 4 top jocks from last season and then??

Hi gregbucks

The first four riders on last season’s national jockeys’ log – Marcus, Anthony Delpech, Muzi Yeni and Felix Coetzee – automatically made the team. The two “wild-card” riders are Weichong Marwing and Piere Strydom with Sherman Brown the reserve.

Larry Wainstein, chairman of the Racing Association announced the team. Must be the board of the Racing Association/ connections. I have my questions with regards to the selection process (like we all do) but they will probably never be answered.

No it doesn't really matter for me but I'm sure for the jockeys it does...

Im sure that there will always be opinions of Jocks that should have got in no matter who is selected...the likes of Fourie,Neisius,Lerena and even Teetan spring to mind,which goes to show what a wealth of talented riders we have in SA at the moment

Hi hibernia

This team is being regarded as a national team. So, to everyone who wears a "Protea jacket" must do so with respect.

I think the only issue here is the selection process.
