R400,000,000pa for mediocre soccer

If we ever needed a reminder that the racing industry needs a makeover and the need to create a product that generates more demand.
Supersport have just agreed to pay R400m per year to show local PSL matches.
Racing has to pay for its own channel, can't get a 2nd one and got its interactive facility withdrawn......cos the public don't want it.
If racing could demand that sort of revenue, they wouldn't have to steal our betting pools for prize money.
Unless Racing improves its image, sports betting will kill it,because there is no need to decimate it for "prize money" or tax.
Can somebody explain how, with the revenue advantage sports already hold, how the Govt was convinced to maintain tax on racing bets but not on any sports betting.

Rob when you think about they reckon horse racing atracts 100,000 viewers a day ,must be one of the least watched channels in existence..

ATR (UK free channel) has anaverage viewing figure of 80 000

racing is dying fast

If you think that most people actually work and thats the reason why ATR have low figures. Sky Sports have over 6 million subscribers and Sky is not cheap so you wont be having people who work watching. Besides not many people are too bothered with racing during the wek. Just look at the crowds at the racing on the weekend. Your case that racing is dying does not hold any substance as more and more people use the internet to bet on the horses.
