If not mistaken Arlington is the oldest race track in SA.
IMO it is the most beautiful race course.

There's no way it's the oldest - Greyville, Turffontein and Kenilworth have all been around longer - but it is a unique track that suits certain horses and the setting - just over the wall from one of PE's most affluent residential zones - surely means that much more use of it could be made while still keeping it going as a racing venue.

Been there recently..its a mess......very,very neglected....needs a huge cash injection,to get it to standard. But knowing how well supported pe meetings are,i think its worth the input.....I am in the hospitality business...and i think a lot more use can be made of the facilities at the tracks.Even more so in pe 'cos the weekends are available for functions, etc as there is only friday meetings....Gold circle has leased out function venues to me at Clairwood park...and the venues are fully booked throughout the year....the intrafructure is all there....parking....lovely ambience...fulll bar facilities....up to date kitchens....so gold circle is netting at least a million a year just from rentals..of the 2 venues...clairwood still has the panoramique and a few other venues available....but also it brings people to the racecourse....so many pple havent visited the racecourse...and when they see for the first time what kind of facilities are available...they will surely want to come racing.....Scottsville is now starting that same idea...and Greyville may follow....but the point is:the upkeep of a racecourse,is just not in the hands of racing revenue...there are so many other opportunities available......
