Gold Circle Media release Gold Cup

Gold Circle and sponsors Canon are jointly committed to doing everything in their power to ensure that the Canon Gold Cup Race meeting, which features four Grade 1 events, takes place before the close of the 2010/11 Racing Season on 31 July 2011, hence the decision to initially postpone to this date.



However, should conditions not improve sufficiently to stage this event on Sunday, Gold Circle and Canon have agreed that a further postponement to Saturday 6 August 2011 will be considered to ensure that this showcase raceday takes place for the benefit of all of horse racing’s stakeholders.



“This has been a difficult week for us all but most especially for the trainers and their charges and we sincerely regret the disruptions caused by the heavy unseasonal rains,” said Gold Circle’s Racing Director Graeme Hawkins

Yep - could be an extended weekend with lots of people taking the Monday off. Should swell the attendances with more "out-of towners" on the course.

I don't understand why Gold Circle apologize for the weather. Lot more shit they can say sorry for 1st. I think they have a GOD complex.

Anyone factored the effect of weight allowances etc for rung the other Graded races after the season ends. Can the NHRA declare an extension to the season??

No rain all day on the coast. There may be a chance, the only problem is East may have given them an idea re the long weekend LOL!!!

Al - Did hear a rumour that Canon is not entirely happy about the Sunday racing. Only a rumour.

What a ball up have a 2 year old feature race 1 day before season ends and now meeting could be washed out.ROFL

I assume CANON are manufacturers of weapons perhaps they send a few to the KZN postal workers with a map to GC Offices.
