Derreck David

Just read on facebook Derreck David responding to someone who asked if he was pissed off about being jocked of PJ in the July,

his response was "Not pissed off at all, all smiles and I hope my champ can bring the cup back to JHB"

Which is of course the correct thing to say..

What do you guys think about him being replaced?

I wouldn't be happy about it, but I think his maturity and professional approach makes him respond like that.
I can understand that Doug Whyte is a brilliant jockey, but DD is decent and he KNOWS THE HORSE which IMO is so important going into a big race. Why change a winning formula? Anyway, good luck to them all....they will need it!

It's sad Derek is not riding PJ.
The same can be said about Glenn Hatt who is Ramsden stable jock but gets the second choice LION IN WINTER for the July instead of BRAVURA.
imo both these jocks are pissed off:X

A very diplomatic reply from Derek indeed.............. If I was him I'd be mighty pissed off, as Derek has brought him on for the big race. Is this not the 2nd time its happened to him ?........... the candy man was the previous REPLACEMENT if I'm not mistaken...... also with PJ.

Always a topic of conversation and being "jockeyed off" has plenty stories with Piggott and many many more

I guess its a difficult choice or call to take the stable jock and lad that works the horse for International stars, everyone want to get the best possible chance and no right or wrong answer

Was it Fraad on Dynasty, similar story.

Form our own horses I remember Cliffy Otto asking if we should keep Alan Fleet on Breathless after a good second and Marwing was on the jt fav, Alan won the race for us with a great ride, in addition the guys that had Divine Act also stuck with Charles Van Booma for the match race, I am sure many other stories on the topic.

Robbie Fradd replaced Karl Neisius on Dynasty but this was because of Karl injuring himself by falling of a horse about two weeks earlier.
Robbie Fradd got the mount of the ill fated July favourite Rabiya ahead of Gerrit Schlechter but Schlechter got sweet revenge on Eyeofthetiger a year later. Incidentally all these horses were owned by Fieldspring Racing.

P.S. Rabiya broke down during the race as well as Dunsinane. Those pictures were the front page story in the Sunday Tribune the next day.

Dougie is a better choice than DD.

Maybe Dougie is a better choice than DD but don't you get anything for being loyal to the stable, riding work in the early morning and riding the horse in races, only to be booted off for one of our top overseas jocks who rides once a year.

I feel sorry for DD and am pleased in the professional way he responded when I am sure he had stronger words he could have used. Don't know what happened behind the scenes but if it was just a case of putting Dougie up ahead of DD then I am pretty dissapointed with the Alexander yard.
