These okes make no sense !!

15 runners = 3 places
20runners = 6 places

agree with you guys , a 10cents superfecta would have been a nice idea .

Paying out 5 places would have been a better option imo!!

Funnily enough my bet almost every July is places for my "something to shout for" interest.....that will now DEFINITELY be on the books.
I cant understand the thinking behind this change......do they expect to take MORE place money as a result?.....the once a year social punters will spend their normal and probably won't know any different, and the serious place punter won't risk the dilution of dividends and look elsewhere for a guaranteed return........ IMO?

Imagine the joy and jubilation of the first time punter - "I put R20 places on Igugu f in the July and got back R22- Wow I think I'll become a gambler now - At this rate I will be able to pay off my child's school fees before he reaches retirement!! Wow racing is really a good way to make loads of money!! "

Foolish - If I were Phumelela/GC i would hold back on all carryover pools for a moth before the July and create a "superpool" - Jackpot - Quartet - But being brilliant they decide 6 places to again confuse Joe Public.

Spot on Mr H was thinking the same but was considering the happy chappy who puts R100 on and gets R80 back.

It often happens in big races Cheltenham/National for 5/6 places but they stick to the 1/4 odds fixed which is a massive difference to offering this watered down bet. :(

Mr H, I couldn't agree more about the carryover's why not from 1 June have all the carryover's from all the various pools into a Superpool on July Day. Imaging the Pick 6 starting with a R5 million pool, Jackpot R500,000, Trifecta R500,000 and Quarter R2 million. This would really add huge interest from all circles come July day and it could be advertised like the Lottery with all this free money in the kitty.

The annual punter battles to get the win/place bet right, imagine finding six winners

Bad Company, I wasn't really thinking about the annual punter, was selfishly thinking about me. ;)

I'm sure there is more to this - perhaps a person with a large calculator will find some method in this madness? I know that i'll be taking FIXED odds places on my selection so again the tote drives me to the bookmaker!

To turn an annual punter into a new punter,he doesn't have to win the big payout he just needs to know it exists weekly and decide its worth chasing ......how many people play the Lotto ,and how many people catch it !
From a pick 6 ticket,he will probably extend into other bets that he becomes aware of.If you "studying for the pick6" you will become interested in horseracing.

How many new punters or friends you have started to show interest in the pick 6 after a few bets rob, I'm assuming when you started punting the pick6 didn't exist so did you show interest in the JP straight away. Personally I hate the pick6 and I think its the hardest bet to catch and I don't think its logical to compare lotto with the pick6 or horse racing for that matter.

Now have to get excited :)

Andrew Harrison – Gold Circle Publishing

Punters on this year’s Vodacom Durban July have been given added incentive with the Totalisator set to pay six places on the big race to be run at Greyville Racecourse on Saturday, July 2.

In the past place payouts were restricted to the first four horses past the post.

For so many this is the only bet they take all year so by paying down to the sixth placed horse novice and once-a-year punters have a greater opportunity of winning.

To ensure that the pool does not become diluted because of the two extra payouts it will be given a cash injection by the operators who will reduce their normal take-out rate from the pool.

Also with the race now paying six places it is expected that the All To Come bet will come into its own and add massive value to the pool.

The All To Come bet has proved popular amongst regular punters since its inception and it is anticipated that these punters will now structure their bets around the Vodacom Durban July Place Pool which will now offer them a bigger chance of winning.

With these added incentives the Vodacom Durban July Place Pool, that reached R6,3 million last year, is expected to be huge giving punters the opportunity of making a lot more money on their Place and All To Come bets than would ordinarily be the case.

Bad Company, I am not surprised my logic and yours is different....lol.

Lotto and Casino slots are taking billions of rand, every year, from people trying to win that huge, but unlikely,Windfall.......maybe there is a clue there.
