magic i think igugu might need todays race and hwood b will be race fit so im with hwb to finish in front of igugu ...i was very surprized igugu didnt go for the paddock stakes as looking back at the result she would have won easily

Yes, the possible fitness factor was probably what clinched it for me selecting Hollywoodboulevard over Igugu, and I agree that she would surely have won the Paddock Stakes. Win draw or lose, it was a fantastic opportunity to win a Gr 1 with a Galileo, and while MDK no doubt had his reasons one has to wonder if there perhaps hasn't been a slight setback for Igugu somewhere along the way since the Cape Fillies Guineas.

The Plunderer has to be the best roughie on the card.Although by Spectrum, who stayed 2000m himself,he patently didn't stay the Derby trip. This horse has had only one run over a mile, and imo it was his best.He gave Run For It 5,5kgs that day,and on collateral form has to be a massive runner in relation to runners Kavanagh,Perana and Galileo's Destiny.I'm not sure he can beat Link Man,who for me improved for the trip last time and might conceivably improve again stepped up to the mile, but 40-1 is surely a juicy price strictly on form.

True - if The Plunderer is quite the same horse as he was in October, when he had all the hallmarks of a possible next Bold Silvano. I'm not convinced that the 2000m was the only reason he ran nowhere near that form in the Cape Derby, though he could also have been all-at-sea around the left handed turns because he never seemed to me to be travelling very fluently.

Still, on old form JAP is quite right, the horse must have a real chance of winning at a big price, and he must at least be chucked into trifectas and quartets.

Well it is an interesting meeting at least; all this talk about the Cape having the better horses is pure conjecture imo; Kavanagh did finish in front (and Perana just behind) Run for It, who ran very well in the Met, so in my book there is not a lot between them.

Some thoughts on today's card:

R1: No selection
R2: Waywest Goddess the obvious one, Esterel the only danger imo
R3: Tough opening leg to the PA; definite inclusion for me is Quiet Storm who at least is certain of getting the trip and seems well in here
R4: Tribal the obvious one and could strengthen the argument about the Cape horses being superior, but he has flopped in his only try on soft ground, so that must be a concern; I think Benbow could prove the right one to challenge him, but most of the others have place claims imo
R5: Dancewiththedevil the best bet on the card today for me (18/10 seems generous); I like Lisa Anne to place
R6: Earl of Surrey best in by far, but Call to Combat won very easily with the blinkers last time and could prove better than rated; I still believe that Galileo's Galaxy is better over further, but he has obvious place credentials along with Miss Turbulence
R7: Hollywoodboulevard for me, lots of support for Welwitchia so she could be the main danger while Igugu needs more ground imo - the Fillies Classic beckons, I reckon
R8: Competitive race between the de Kock runners, of which my preference is for Perana, but 33/1 about The Plunderer is huge odds about a horse who nearly beat Run For It giving him 4 kg's
R9: Very tough close to the P6 and PA; just about every runner in the race holds some sort of chance; I just believe that Mirage Drive is well in here and should go close
R10: Reach for that pin

Play well

Two good winners they can give Igugu the Tiara now if she enters the other races...

The colts race was brilliant the 1st 3 have big careers ahead of them!!
