Scotia on odds and ends
14 years 4 months ago
Good morning to the Clan and looking forward to some good racing over the next couple of months at the big T.
The big news is that I have a new neighbour (travel agent) and he has offered us tickets to the UK over Easter cheaper than the Cape Town flights and "might" manage to see Frankel in the 2000 gns?
Most of the manufacturing plants are taking the 3 days to have an 11 day break.
Just want to have coms when away from home, my IT skills are still not good and Bob keeps me right, he asked me "do you know how to disable cookies"? and I replied "no but I have bitten the arm of a gingerbread man", I think he is giving up on me.

Sea the Stars and Zarkava have had a colt.............Baby Colt a new Superstar?
The posts continues on the pros and cons between using the tote to help racing or using the bookies for better service and price. The latest events have again put the pendulum in favour of the bookies who were well ahead on the ATC debate. The horses being loaded into the wrong stalls, the Kimberley race 2 result and abandoned meeting and the Dubai non-runner has really knocked the punters confidence in the tote product and service, not to mention the erratic payouts...What about Golden Sword?
Maybe the bookies should consider more sponsorship to racing, I see a few have taken the lead by displaying banners on track (including Telly) plus sponsoring TV shows, I am sure some solutions will be found for the long term survival of the game.
On the subject of the shows on Tellytrack, I must say we have had some crackers over the last month and for me "232" has been given some creditability versus the Ngong, Sweden, Turkey, Italy dished up to the punters. The Robin Bruss show on the sales, Nico and Molly with Horse Chestnut, the Lithgow's on SA stars, Winning Ways with Piggott, Mill Reef, Nijinsky and Arkle, Dessie and Red Rum has made for great viewing.

Another positive for racing would be to get more owners into syndicates as I believe the best way to attract someone to the track is if they have a share in a horse, but feel the NHRA are not helping with the fees structure, we are planning a new venture in conjunction with Gavin Van Zyl to help try and promote racing......Syndicate
Latest prices:
Football: The EPL is now a two horse race Man Utd 6/10 Gunners 22/10, Chelsea 25/1 and City 33/1
Champions league Arsenal vs Barcelona has the potential to be a great game, fancy a bit 25/1 the Gunners? If they can get past Barcelona, you never know?
Rugby: England look good for the 6 Nations at 8/10 and France 15/10. the Poms are also 19/10 for the Grand Slam.
Super Rugby where The Crusaders 3/1 and Bulls 7/2 early favs, I fancy the Crusaders this year.
Cricket: India 3/1, Sri Lanka 5/1, Australia 11/2, SA 6/1, 17/2 Eng, 9/1 Pakistan. (England could be the bet!)
Horses: Grand National where Ballabriggs is 14/1 fav.Cheltenham will Cue Card stick to the Supreme at 5/2 for go for the Champion Hurdle 80/1, Master Minded 22/10 for the Chase, Big Bucks still 11/10 for World Hurdle, Frankel 13/10 for 2000 gns, plus 13/2 Derby, (could be a great price) 5/1 Bold Silvano for World Cup is no value at this stage, maybe 4/1 Uncle Mo for the Kentucky Derby is worth a punt.

Good punting and may your God be with you

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry, chaired by Advocate G. Hoffman, held on 14 February 2011, the Board found that the Stipendiary Stewards had failed in their duty by not calling for either a review and/or an objection into an incident involving BETTY BURKE and CYBER LADY at approximately the 200m mark in Race 2 at Flamingo Park Racecourse on 07 February 2011.
The Inquiry Board was of the view that, had there been an objection, it would have been upheld. The members of the Stipendiary Board have acknowledged their error in judgement with regard to this incident. The Inquiry Board recommended to Management that disciplinary action be taken against the relevant Stipendiary Stewards.
The National Horseracing Authority acknowledges that the Stipendiary Stewards failed in their duties and apologises to the public for the incorrect decision which was made.
The recommendation of the Inquiry Board has been noted and disciplinary action will be taken against these Stipendiary Stewards.
