A Sub-Committee of the National Board conducted a hearing on 17 September 2010. The hearing was to consider imposing an interim suspension, pending the finalisation of an Appeal lodged by Trainer Mr J S Roux against the warning off imposed on him by an Inquiry Board. Mr Roux was found guilty of being the person responsible for the horse TARA'S FLIGHT, the winning horse for Race 9 at Arlington Racecourse on 11 June 2010, from which a specimen disclosed the presence of Flunixin and Furosemide.
An interim suspension was imposed on Mr Roux and he was advised that he may not nominate, accept or race any horse under his care until the finalisation of the appeal.
At an inquiry held on 20 October 2010, Colour Holder Mr Steven Ferrie was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.7, in that he allowed the horse AMARILLO on 9 September 2010 at the Vaal Racecourse in Race 3 and the horse WESTERN SPLASH on 12 October 2010 at the Vaal Racecourse in Race 2, to run in his name and colours, when neither of these horses were owned or leased by him. Mr Ferrie was found guilty and issued with a fine of R10 000 of which R7 500 is wholly suspended for a period of two years.
Further, Trainer Reid Paterson was charged under the same rule for entering the above horses to run in the name and colours of Mr S Ferrie, when neither of these horses were owned or leased by Mr Ferrie. Mr Paterson pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty and issued a fine of R10 000 of which R5 000 is wholly suspended for a period of two years. Mr Paterson has the right of appeal against both the finding and the penalty.
At an inquiry held in Johannesburg on 15 September 2010, Apprentice Jockey Victor Morake was found guilty of a contravention of Rule 56.2.4, in that on 9 September 2010 at the Vaal Racecourse he used his cellular phone in the Jockeys' room without consent from the Stipendiary Board or the Clerk of Scales. A fine of R10 000 was imposed, of which R5 000 is wholly suspended for a period of one year, on condition that Mr Morake is not found guilty of a similar contravention during that period.
Further, Morake was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read with Guideline C, in that when riding BARLEY GOLD in Race 2, he used his crop in an unnecessary manner at the Flamingo Park Racecourse on 25 October 2010. On signing an Admission of Guilt Morake was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 29 October to 4 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Xolane Ndlovu was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of DATURA, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to DANCING CHERIE passing the 900 metre mark in Race 8 at the Arlington Racecourse on 13 September 2010. Mr Ndlovu signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 18 September to 24 September 2010, both days inclusive.
Ndlovu was similarly charged as the rider of CAPTAIN'S LEAGUE in Race 7 at the Arlington Racecourse on 17 September 2010 and served a suspension of ten days from 25 September to 4 October 2010, both days inclusive.
At an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on 9 November 2010, Trainer Louis Goosen appeared before a National Horseracing Authority Inquiry Board, chaired by Advocate Guy Hoffman SC. The mandate of the Inquiry Board was to ascertain whether a SMS which Mr Goosen had disseminated on the evening of 17 September 2010, had the effect of bringing into disrepute the good name of the NHA. The Board found that although the contents of the SMS did indeed contravene the provisions of Rule 72.1.26, that no further action should be taken inter alia because Mr Goosen had sent out a further SMS on the morning of 18 September 2010, correcting the negative impression created by the first SMS.
Jockey Lance Pagel was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of ARTISTICALLY DONE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to ROYAL PARTY in the latter stages of Race 6 at the Greyville Racecourse on 23 September 2010. On signing an Admission of Guilt, he was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 2 October to 8 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Further at an Inquiry held on 1 October 2010, Pagel was charged with a contravention of Rule 77.1.1 read in conjunction with Rule 77.2.10 in that a urine specimen taken from him at the Scottsville Racecourse on 25 July 2010 disclosed upon analysis the presence of Furosemide which is a prohibited substance. Mr Pagel pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge.
The Inquiry Board imposed a suspension from riding in races for a period of one month, of which two weeks are wholly suspended for a period of one year on condition that Mr Pagel is not found guilty of a contravention of these Rules during that period. Pagel has the right of appeal.
Jockey Andrew Fortune was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of WINTER CLASSIC, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to MAGIC OF ROME at approximately the 800m mark of Race 9 at the Greyville Racecourse on 26 September 2010.
He was similarly charged at a later occasion as the rider of PLAISIR DE FETE in Race 2 at the Fairview Racecourse on 22 October 2010. Mr Fortune signed an Admission of Guilt on both occasions and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 12 October to 18 October 2010, inclusive, and 29 October to 4 November 2010, inclusive, respectively.
Further, at an Inquiry on 27 October 2010 to 10 November 2010, Jockey Andrew Fortune was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3, in that whilst riding NOBLEWOOD, he failed to ride this horse out to the end of the race when still competing for 2nd place and stopped riding with two strides to go, in Race 6 on 6 October 2010, at Durbanville Racecourse. Mr A Fortune pleaded guilty to the charge and was issued with a fine of R20 000.
Apprentice Jockey Nooresh Juglall was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of GANGSTA FURY, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 300m mark in Race 5 at the Vaal Racecourse on 30 September 2010. Mr Juglall signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 13 October to 19 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Simanga Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of VICTORY BELT, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 200m mark of Race 9 at the Turffontein Racecourse on 2 October 2010. Mr Khumalo signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 16 October to 22 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Further, Khumalo received a similar suspension for a similar transgression while riding ARABIAN JET in Race 7 at the Vaal Racecourse on 25 November 2010. This suspension will be served from 1 December to 7 December, both days inclusive.
Apprentice Jockey Sanele Duma was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of FROM THE FRONTIER, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to SPIRIT OF SUCCESS at approximately the 1200m mark in Race 5 at the Clairwood Racecourse on 3 October 2010. Mr Duma signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 9 October to 15 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Apprentice Jockey Justine King was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of MCINTOSH, she failed to ensure that she did not cause interference to CAPTAIN'S LEAGUE entering the bend at the 1000m mark of Race 7 at Arlington Racecourse on 8 October 2010. Miss King signed an Admission of Guilt and she has been suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 19 October to 25 October 2010, both days inclusive.
King was similarly charged as the rider of CANNONBALL in Race 6 at the Fairview Racecourse on 5 November 2010 and was subsequently suspended from 16 November to 22 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockeys Mark Neisius and Karis Teetan were charged with contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that they failed to ensure that they did not cause interference to other runners in in Race 9 and Race 1, respectively, at the Durbanville Racecourse on 9 October 2010. Both riders pleaded guilty and received suspensions of one week.
Jockey Kevin Shea was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of PALERMO ROSA, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 200m mark of Race 5 at the Greyville Racecourse on 10 October 2010. Mr Shea signed an Admission of Guilt and he has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 11 October to 17 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Further, Shea was found guilty of a similar transgression on 20 October 2010 at the Clairwood racecourse while riding SOUTH RANGER (ARG) and was again suspended this time for ten days from 22 November to 1 December 2010, both days inclusive but excluding 27 November and including 3 December 2010.
Jockey Craig Du Plooy was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of UDUBE (AUS), he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners when he switched out at approximately the 400m mark of Race 3 at Durbanville Racecourse on 13 October 2010. On signing an Admission of Guilt, he was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 14 October to 20 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Apprentice Jockeys Jessen Vyapooree and Craig Prttigrew were both charged with contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that they failed to ensure that they did not cause interference to other riders in Race 4 and Race 3, respectively, at Durbanville Racecourse on 16 October 2010. Both riders signed an Admission of Guilt and were suspended from riding in race meetings for one week.
Apprentice Jockey Doctor Lembethe was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that as the rider of BELLAGIO, he used his crop in an unnecessary and excessive manner over the final 200 metres in Race 5 run at the Clairwood Racecourse on 17 October 2010. Mr Lembethe signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 23 October to 29 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Brian Nyawo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of MANTOSH (BRZ), he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners when he shifted in, in the latter stages of Race 5 at the Durbanville Racecourse on 19 October 2010. Mr Nyawo signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 31 October to 6 November 2010, both days inclusive.
At an inquiry held on 28 October 2010, Jockey Anton Marcus was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that whilst riding WILD SWAN, in Race 4 run at the Vaal Racecourse on Thursday 21 October 2010, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 200 metre mark. Mr Marcus pleaded guilty to the charge and has been suspended from riding in races for a period of one week. Mr Marcus has the right to appeal the penalty.
Apprentice Jockey Jonathan Soll was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of ONE JUMP CHARLIE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to RUN FOR IT by shifting to the inside shortly after the start of Race 6 at the Fairview Racecourse on 22 October 2010. Mr Soll signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 25 October to 31 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Soll was similarly charged as the rider of AUDIT REPORT in Race 3 at the Fairview Racecourse on 5 November 2010 and was subsequently suspended two weeks from 13 November to 26 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Apprentice Jockey Juan-Paul van der Merwe was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of TWO STRIKES, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 700m mark of Race 7 at the Kenilworth Racecourse on 27 October 2010. Mr van der Merwe signed an Admission of Guilt and was from riding in race meetings for one week from 13 November to 19 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Barend Vlooh was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of WAIT A MINUTE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to HEY THERE DELILAH when he shifted out at approximately the 300m mark of Race 2 at the Fairview Racecourse on 29 October 2010. Mr Vlooh signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 30 October to 5 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Gavin Lerena and Apprentice Jockey Gareth Wright were both charged with contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that they failed to ensure that they did not cause interference to other runners in Race 7 at the Turffontein Racecourse Race 3 at the Kenilworth Racecourse, respectively, on 30 October 2010. On signing an Admission of Guilt, both were suspended from riding in race meetings for one week.
Jockey Shannon Devoy was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of TRAVELLER'S TALE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to WHINK when he shifted in at approximately the 300m mark of Race 3 at the Fairview Racecourse on 5 November 2010. Mr Devoy signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 16 November to 22 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Sandile Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of FIFTY SCENT, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to VIEWOFTHEPARK when he shifted in at about the 300 metre mark in Race 2 at the Fairview Racecourse on 12 November 2010. On signing an Admission of Guilt he was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 16 November to 22 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Further, at an Inquiry held on 11 November 2010, Jockey S R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 77.1 read with Rule 77.2.10 in that a urine specimen taken from him at the Arlington Racecourse on 13 September 2010 disclosed upon analysis the presence of a prohibited substance, Furosemide.
Mr Khathi pleaded guilty and was found so, after which a suspension from riding in races for a period of one month was imposed. Two of these weeks are wholly suspended for a period of one year on condition that Mr Khathi is not found guilty of a contravention of these Rules during that period. Mr Khathi has the right of appeal.
Jockey William Buick was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of CASK, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners on his outside when he shifted out sharply in the closing stages in Race 8 at the Kenilworth Racecourse on 14 November 2010. Mr Buick signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week. In terms of the International Agreement on Racing and Breeding, we requested that the British Horseracing Authority reciprocate this penalty and as a result, Mr Buick was suspended from riding for the same time period – 20 November to 26 November inclusive – in the United Kingdom.
Jockey Brandon Morgenrood was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of CAPE TRAFALGAR, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to THUNDERFLASH at approximately the 400m mark of Race 7 at the Fairview Racecourse on 19 November 2010. Mr Morgenrood signed an Admission of Guilt and has been suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 30 November to 6 December 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Bernard Fayd'Herbe was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of POCKET POWER, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to FORT VOGUE when he shifted in at approximately the 200m mark of Race 7 at the Kenilworth Racecourse on 20 November 2010. Mr Fayd'Herbe signed an Admission of Guilt and has been suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 28 November to 4 December 2010, both days inclusive but excluding 4 December and including 7 December 2010.
Apprentice Jockey Keagan de Melo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of DONGOLA, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to KING FERNANDO over the final 100 metres of Race 5 at the Greyville Racecourse on 26 November 2010. Mr de Melo signed an Admission of Guilt and has been suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 29 November to 5 December 2010, both days inclusive.

Mr Jordaan signed an Admission of Guilt and has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a one week from 5 December to 11 December 2010, both days inclusive.

Apprentice Jockey Doctor Lembethe was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read in conjunction with Guideline M, in that as the rider of BELLAGIO, he used his crop in an unnecessary and excessive manner over the final 200 metres in Race 5 run at the Clairwood Racecourse on 17 October 2010. Mr Lembethe signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 23 October to 29 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Brian Nyawo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of MANTOSH (BRZ), he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners when he shifted in, in the latter stages of Race 5 at the Durbanville Racecourse on 19 October 2010. Mr Nyawo signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 31 October to 6 November 2010, both days inclusive.
At an inquiry held on 28 October 2010, Jockey Anton Marcus was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that whilst riding WILD SWAN, in Race 4 run at the Vaal Racecourse on Thursday 21 October 2010, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 200 metre mark. Mr Marcus pleaded guilty to the charge and has been suspended from riding in races for a period of one week. Mr Marcus has the right to appeal the penalty.
Apprentice Jockey Jonathan Soll was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of ONE JUMP CHARLIE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to RUN FOR IT by shifting to the inside shortly after the start of Race 6 at the Fairview Racecourse on 22 October 2010. Mr Soll signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 25 October to 31 October 2010, both days inclusive.
Soll was similarly charged as the rider of AUDIT REPORT in Race 3 at the Fairview Racecourse on 5 November 2010 and was subsequently suspended two weeks from 13 November to 26 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Apprentice Jockey Juan-Paul van der Merwe was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of TWO STRIKES, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners at approximately the 700m mark of Race 7 at the Kenilworth Racecourse on 27 October 2010. Mr van der Merwe signed an Admission of Guilt and was from riding in race meetings for one week from 13 November to 19 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Barend Vlooh was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of WAIT A MINUTE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to HEY THERE DELILAH when he shifted out at approximately the 300m mark of Race 2 at the Fairview Racecourse on 29 October 2010. Mr Vlooh signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 30 October to 5 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Gavin Lerena and Apprentice Jockey Gareth Wright were both charged with contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that they failed to ensure that they did not cause interference to other runners in Race 7 at the Turffontein Racecourse Race 3 at the Kenilworth Racecourse, respectively, on 30 October 2010. On signing an Admission of Guilt, both were suspended from riding in race meetings for one week.
Jockey Shannon Devoy was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of TRAVELLER'S TALE, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to WHINK when he shifted in at approximately the 300m mark of Race 3 at the Fairview Racecourse on 5 November 2010. Mr Devoy signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 16 November to 22 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Sandile Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of FIFTY SCENT, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to VIEWOFTHEPARK when he shifted in at about the 300 metre mark in Race 2 at the Fairview Racecourse on 12 November 2010. On signing an Admission of Guilt he was suspended from riding in race meetings for a period of one week from 16 November to 22 November 2010, both days inclusive.
Further, at an Inquiry held on 11 November 2010, Jockey S R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 77.1 read with Rule 77.2.10 in that a urine specimen taken from him at the Arlington Racecourse on 13 September 2010 disclosed upon analysis the presence of a prohibited substance, Furosemide.
Mr Khathi pleaded guilty and was found so, after which a suspension from riding in races for a period of one month was imposed. Two of these weeks are wholly suspended for a period of one year on condition that Mr Khathi is not found guilty of a contravention of these Rules during that period. Mr Khathi has the right of appeal.
Jockey William Buick was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of CASK, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to other runners on his outside when he shifted out sharply in the closing stages in Race 8 at the Kenilworth Racecourse on 14 November 2010. Mr Buick signed an Admission of Guilt and was suspended from riding in race meetings for one week. In terms of the International Agreement on Racing and Breeding, we requested that the British Horseracing Authority reciprocate this penalty and as a result, Mr Buick was suspended from riding for the same time period – 20 November to 26 November inclusive – in the United Kingdom.
Jockey Brandon Morgenrood was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of CAPE TRAFALGAR, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to THUNDERFLASH at approximately the 400m mark of Race 7 at the Fairview Racecourse on 19 November 2010. Mr Morgenrood signed an Admission of Guilt and has been suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 30 November to 6 December 2010, both days inclusive.
Jockey Bernard Fayd'Herbe was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of POCKET POWER, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to FORT VOGUE when he shifted in at approximately the 200m mark of Race 7 at the Kenilworth Racecourse on 20 November 2010. Mr Fayd'Herbe signed an Admission of Guilt and has been suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 28 November to 4 December 2010, both days inclusive but excluding 4 December and including 7 December 2010.
Apprentice Jockey Keagan de Melo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7, in that as the rider of DONGOLA, he failed to ensure that he did not cause interference to KING FERNANDO over the final 100 metres of Race 5 at the Greyville Racecourse on 26 November 2010. Mr de Melo signed an Admission of Guilt and has been suspended from riding in race meetings for one week from 29 November to 5 December 2010, both days inclusive.
Apprentice Jockey Jassurick Jordaan was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2, read with Guideline C, in that when riding KNIGHT'S INLET in Race 8, he used his crop in an unnecessary manner over the final 400 metres in Race 8 at the Turffontein Racecourse on 27 November 2010. Mr Jordaan signed an Admission of Guilt and has been suspended from riding in race meetings for a one week from 5 December to 11 December 2010, both days inclusive.

I hope they all not suspended at the same time......The NHRA will have to leave their glass tower and come ride in some races, show the boys how it's done

Can we suspend the jockey club for not being transparent with the testing process?
Can we suspend the jockey club for not having safety processes in place for the staff working with the chemicals during testing?
