too true....I have been around at a few outlets recently and I rate them very poorly.....an example would be- Betting World Emperor's near JHB Airport....went to collect people from airport but they missed flight, so went to the Betting World outlet to kill a bit of time.....On first impression not bad at all, nice set up but sadly spoilt by the un/badly managed staff who seem to encourage the locals to push bets past a person in the front of the queue thought it was my fault for calling bets, but when a local bloke stood ummming and ahhhing for what seemed a lifetime no one tried to push in in front of him, yet every time I went for a bet the operator took bets from locals to the left and right of me.....eventually I spoke up and theatened violence which seemed to make the system go down on me when I wanted to place bets.....if ever I were to go there again I will deposit money in my account and play from my laptop because the facility has nothing to offer a chance visitor.....

TAB (Lower Glenwood, Dbn) - Comfortable with a few different rooms, cold beer, limited food although the curry is good. Small venue but normally parking ok. Staff ok without going to any extra trouble to smile. 5/10.

TAB (Brittania Hotel) - Ugly facilities, rudest bookmaker in town. Only saving grace is the pub/restaurant next door where the best curries in Durban can be enjoyed in a great vibe. Go there 3 Fridays out of every 4. (The LEGENDARY Brit!!!) 2/10 for the tote and 10/10 for the Brit's pub/restaurant.

Club TAB (Greyville) - Great facilities, very poor service, overall great food at good prices although I physically could not cut the patty on my burger one day (literally). Pastas are the best kept secret in Durbs at about R35. Vibe could be better. Racing updates would be nice. Still a nive venue to visit. 8/10.

TAB (Overport City) - Ugly facilities, bookies OK but no extra effort, patrons seem to lack ettiquette and can be rude. No food, unless we counting snacks from the vending machine. 3/10

TAB (Pine St) - Another ugly facility but saved by very friendly tote operators and owner. Bookies also quite friendly. Best of all, a great curry can be purchased from Vasi. Get in quick on Breyani day as it sells out with some speed. Area is dodgy and parking sometimes a problem. 6/10

Hehehehe, looking at my comments above it is clear that I am not a huge punter but know my food. Maybe ABC can start a "Where to eat" forum.

Is it just me or do bookies generally act as though they are doing you a huge favour by taking your money. If ANY bookie took the trouble to greet me in a friendly manner and maybe even learn my name I would stop travelling all over the town to lay bets and would support ONLY that guy.

Also, 90% of betting facilities are dirty and generally a mess. Is it that hard to keep it clean?

Betting World Fourways - Situated at '' The Buzz '' shopping centre. Not bad. Tote teller '' Mam Joyce '' is a star. Few problems with getting on. Lack of refreshments is forgiven because 50m away is " Hooters '' - Now we talking sunshine ! Branch 6.5 / 10. Branch with " Hooters '' thrown into the equation 10 / 10. Jake and the fatman ( fat chef ) best breakfast buffet in Joburg. If you go, ask " Mam Joyce " ( The elderly stout lady ) if you can have an ATC bet on a centre where you know the ATC bet is not available as her explanation why you can't is priceless.

If a Phumelela rep reads this post - PLEASE tell your operators it is THEFT to continue to take small change 20c - 60c that should be returned to customers without asking - I placed several exotic bets at a particular outlet over two days and everytime I took a bet and the change was say R20-40 I was only given a R20 - I have never been a person that does not tip substantially but just to take my money, however small it may seem, is wrong and if they are doining it with every customer that is due small change then what a lovely sideline - no wonder they sit and chomp KFC and chicken lickin while taking your bets( The greasy fingers on my pa tickets really get to me) - The particular outlet I was in does not take open exotics so I was forced to continue backing with these ladies

Steve I AGREE. The small change story drives me to distraction and at times SPOILS my punting day. I have said it many times on air...10c..40c..30c...60c..20c..70c time after time and race after race, PISSES me off ! I will decide when someone keeps the small change as after all it is my money. I make a point of demanding my change now. Sometimes one takes a percentage PA for R100. Perm = R98.20 and they want to pocket the R1.80 ! If I purchase R 8799.90 worth of groceries at P 'n P, I am gauranteed my 10c change. I think it's disgraceful and has gone on to long and must be stamped out as I have seen MANY punters aggravated and complaining about what is tantamount to theft.

I live in Stellenbosch and have been to a few of the locals but there's very few that makes me want to spend time there:

Best of the ones I've been to - Saxenburg Park (opposite Zevenwacht Mall) - bar and food on site - smokers room - Betting World - ablution facilities is ok
Somerset off N2 - fair - no eal atmosphere - Bookmaker with huge limits on site - light refreshments and bar facilities - ablution facilities is ok
Stellenbosch - close to Khayamandi - no parking facilities - very noisy - very sparse furniture - Marshalls onsite - usually only 2 of 3 tote windows available - no ablution facilities

The pics of Fouries makes me envy you lot down there - Come on the rest of you Capies - any good places to reccommend?
