GOING BACK IN TIME.
14 years 8 months ago
After speaking to a close friend about our good old racing days, the first thing that came to mind was how difficult it was to become a racehorse owner, back in the 70s.The most difficult part was to become a colour holder. Those days you had to present your pay slip,be recommended by another colour holder, and appear in front of a board, that would throw the kitchen zinc at you. When appearing for the crucial interview, out came the suit and tie, hair groomed and best behaviour were all needed. How things have changed. The nicest gesture was made by my friend, who is not short of a rand or two, when he said that he still renews his colours every year, but has not owned a horse since the mid 80s.I laughed and told him that today its so easy, you phone in and choose your colours from a chart whatevers available,do the necessary payment, and you the bees knees.I wonder if he believed me,but yup mate how things have changed.

You can have some (or even all) of mine, Dave. These days they are as unemployed as an encyclopedia salesman or Concorde mechanic.X(

Bowtie? Ha bloody ha. You can put those alongside ladies' underwear and jockey britches in the category of things that I have never worn.
