Stewards' Report RACE ONE
Rons Joy Approaching the 1365 metres had to be eased when awkwardly placed close to the heels of Gordonstoun, which was being restrained, thereafter commenced to over-race. Approaching the 800 metres was taken out to improve its position. When being urged forward leaving the 300 metres, commenced to shift ground outwards, carrying The Forerunner wider on the track.
Gordonstoun Was restrained passing the 1365 metres. Leaving the 1000 metres commenced to over-race and near the 900 metres threw its head when being restrained to avoid the heels of Trojan Winter. Approaching the 400 metres, whilst racing keen, was taken out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of The Forerunner. Leaving the 300 metres was switched to the outside of The Forerunner to secure clear running. When questioned, jockey Aucharuz explained that this gelding had a tendency to fade when being chased to race in the lead, as such for its last race it was settled in the early stages with him running nicely in both races. For todays race, taking into consideration that it was racing over 1500 metres for the first time and that there would have been pace in the race with The Forerunner and Trojan Winter, he was instructed to endeavour to settle his mount shortly after the start and wait for an inside run into the straight to make his move. He added that after jumping well, he found himself in the lead and decided to settle his mount so as to ride as per instructions, however approaching the 1300 metres, when The Forerunner improved on his outside, Gordonstoun commenced to race fiercely and did so throughout the race. He further added that leaving the 450 metres Trojan Winter commenced to give ground, resulting in him having to take his mount out to avoid its heels. When further questioned, he explained that he could have asked his mount for an effort earlier, however bearing in mind that the gelding has a short burst and was racing over 1500 metres with the false rail out at 4 metres, he decided against it. He concluded by saying that when asked for an effort leaving the 300 metres, Gordonstoun stayed one paced, being disappointing.
The Forerunner Was restrained passing the 1365 metres. Passing the 600 metres had to be checked to avoid the heels of Rons Joy, which had shifted ground inwards. Leaving the 300 metres was carried wide. When questioned, jockey Faydherbe explained that as this gelding had faded over the concluding stages previously when racing over 1450 metres, he was instructed to secure the lead without asking his mount for an effort, however if another runner insisted, to settle his mount where comfortable. He added that after jumping well he saw Gordonstoun improving on his inside, as such decided to settle his mount on the outside of Gordonstoun so as to be in a controlling position in the race. He added that passing the 600 metres, when starting to improve his position, he was interfered with and entering the home straight he was carried wide leaving the 250 metres and, when asked for an effort, his mount quickened to hit the front before fading over the concluding stages. Vet report: Lame off fore. Cut into off hind.
Newsman Slow to begin.
Street Byte From its wide draw was taken across to race behind runners. Carried wide leaving the 1300 metres. Approaching the 300 metres was switched to the outside of Gordonstoun and made the turn into the home straight very wide.
Trojan Winter Slow to begin. Leaving the 1300 metres had to be eased and taken out when close to the heels of The Forerunner, which had been restrained. An inquiry into this incident will be held on Tuesday morning. When being taken out, Trojan Winter carried Street Byte wider on the track. Leaving the 1200 metres, when racing wide, was allowed to stride forward to secure the lead. Vet report: Coughing. Bled one nostril.
GENERAL
a) On inquiry, jockey Juglall (Rons Joy) was found guilty of a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (f) in that passing the 600 metres he carelessly allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of The Forerunner, which was racing on his inside, with the latter being cramped for room and having to be checked. He was suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting and fined Rs.30,000.
b) On inquiry, jockey Aucharuz (Gordonstoun) was found guilty of a charge under MTC Rule 160 A (b) in that near the 1365 metres he excessively reduced the speed of his mount, resulting in Rons Joy becoming awkwardly placed close to his heels and having to be eased. In mitigation, jockey Aucharuz requested a suspension in lieu of a fine, he was suspended from riding in races for one Mauritian race meeting.

Stewards' Report RACE SIX
Correct weight was withheld for the Stewards to review the home straight of the race. It was established that approaching the 200 metres Virtue commenced to shift ground outwards, resulting in Rob Roy, which was racing on its outside, being carried outwards, with Al Mariachi, which was following, being switched to Rob Roys inside to continue going forward. The Stewards, taking into consideration the degree of interference suffered by Rob Roy and Al Mariachi together with the margin at the finish, decided not to proceed further and the correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
Virtue Leaving the 250 metres commenced to shift ground outwards, resulting in Rob Roy, which was racing on its outside, being carried outwards, with Al Mariachi, which was following, being switched to Rob Roys inside to continue going forward. Jockey Ségeon explained that Virtue has a history of hanging in in the home straight, as such when he turned for home he switched his whip to his right hand and gave his mount a crack of a whip with his mount shifting out abruptly, he then shifted his whip to his left hand. Rob Roy, which was improving on his outside, over-reacted and, when being taken out, shifted out, inconveniencing Al Mariachi, which was following, with the latter having to be switched to his inside to continue going forward. The Stewards being of the opinion that no blame could be apportioned to any particular rider, decided not to proceed further other than to report this as a racing incident.
Al Mariachi - Jumped awkwardly and shifted ground inwards, making contact with Rob Roy. Inconvenienced passing the 200 metres and was switched to the inside of Rob Roy, which had shifted out slightly.
Rob Roy Jumped awkwardly and shifted ground outwards, making contact with Al Mariachi. Passing the 400 metres hung out under pressure.
ENDS.
P.S.
In his defence jockey Segeon says the horse VIRTUE has a history of hanging in the home straight.
Ja well, knowing full well the horse hangs he persisted in pushing for the lead when ROB ROY was doing all it could to take up the running.
EXPECT MORE HARD LUCK STORIES TODAY.
ISLAND RACING WAS TOP CLASS WHEN JEFF LLOYD AND GLEN HATT WERE RIDING, NOT ANY MORE.
