Gun sprinter In The Congo has the runs on the board and co-trainer Adrian Bott is banking on the colt’s elite class to come to the fore again in a competitive $1m Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.
A win over supreme three-year-old Anamoe in last year’s Golden Rose has already cemented In The Congo as one of the best colts of his generation.
The talented son of Snitzel is favoured to claim a few more big race scalps on The Championships day two when he takes on the likes of Paulele, Mazu, Generation and Ranch Hand under set weights conditions.
Early support has seen the star colt backed from $4.50 into an outright $3.50 favourite for the Group 2 feature.
“It’s a hot race but he is a class horse isn’t he,” Bott, who trains alongside Gai Waterhouse, said.
“He is a Group 1 winner and ran an excellent race resuming in The Galaxy finishing third carrying good weight.
“He should improve off that run, he is versatile in the conditions and the 1200m should be of benefit to him so he looks in good shape.”
In The Congo ran in The Galaxy first up after enjoying a lengthy spell following a disappointing display in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington last spring.

The son of Snitzel returns to his own age group on the weekend for what will be the first of two runs in the next eight days.
Waterhouse and Bott intend to back up In The Congo in Saturday week’s Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick while also looking to enhance his claims for a potential The Everest berth later this year.
“That 1400m will be ideal for him,” Bott said.
“Then that might be it for him to only have a light campaign this time in and focus on the spring which could potentially include an Everest.
“He will be certainly more seasoned for it (The Everest) by then and we certainly had the temptation to last year on the back of his Golden Rose win but it would have been too soon, which ultimately showed when he went down for the Coolmore.
“Twelve months later it’s probably ideal.”
In The Congo is on the fourth line of betting at $8 for the All Aged Stakes while the colt is a $26 chance in The Everest betting.

jockey feedback
2nd IN THE CONGO Tommy Berry He was really good. Struggled in the ground. At the 600m I really tried to get a break between myself and Sam. As I looked over his horse was just cantering through it. Different horses on that ground. The winner is deep into his preparation and we are at the start of ours.
