Hibs,

I like Pergamon alter as well.

At the big T I guess you either banker Captain Scott or you have to find another "obscure" banker later on.

Personally I'm going to banker Navarch in Race 6......I know, I know, I'm nuts but what the hay!!!

Happy punting to you all!

JACK MILNER - Last Saturday some punters were lamenting the fact that in recent weeks every carryover Pick 6 has seen many of the favourites winning, resulting in a small payout.

This weekend there is yet another Pick 6 carryover - R739,440 will be injected into the pool from Wednesday’s Greyville meeting. However, it is pretty safe to say that based on tomorrow’s card, a low dividend is unlikely.

Other than Captain Scott in Race 4, the first leg of the estimated R4-million pool, there are no obvious bankers and the balance of the legs look most competitive.

Even Captain Scott, while clearly deserving his expected short price, is not exactly a ``gimmee’’, as was the case with Charles Laird’s coupling of Oracy, Imperial Gesture and Eight Street last week.

Alec Laird’s runner will be having his infamous second run after a layoff in this Conditions Plate over 1450m and will need to be close to his best to beat the likes of Lisa Anne and Choisir.

Captain Scott ran a long-neck fourth behind Aslan in the Summer Cup after looking the winner 100m from home and followed with a 1.25-length second to Oracy in the London News Stakes (Grade 3). On that occasion he had the likes of Dan De Lago and Buy And Sell behind him and the opposition he meets here is significantly weaker.

The son of Captain Al was rested for two months and made his return to action in a sprint over 1160m at Turffontein, running a comfortable 0.50-length third to Moroccan. He is at least 2.5kg better off with any of the other runners here and does perform on the inside track.

If he still needs the run Lisa Anne could be the one to capitalise.

Gary Alexander’s filly comes into the race off a third behind Mother Russia in the Grade 1 Empress Club Stakes - and finishing six lengths behind the J&B Met runner-up at level weights is no mean feat.

She has been running in a number of feature races for fillies and mares and will carry just 51kg.

Punters willing to take a chance on another Pick 6 banker in order to load the other legs could opt for Spike Lerena’s Johnny Fox in Race 5.

He has only raced four times, with his inauspicious unplaced debut coming in May 2008. He followed with an even shoddier performance after which he was rested until August last year. He was gelded during that period and his return to racing resulted in one of the betting coups of the year. The son Tara’s Halls was backed from 25-1 to 11-2 and hacked up by 4.25 lengths from Saziwayo. Three winners have come from that form-line.

In his next start Johnnie Fox took on Dominic Zaki’s highly rated Echohawk and made him look ordinary, thumping him by 2.25 lengths.

Although he has not raced since that win in September, both his victories were on the inside track so if close to peak fitness, he will be hard to beat.

Significantly, Lerena has accepted to run him in next Saturday’s HF Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes over 1600m on the standside track. In that race he will be taking on the likes of Mother Russia, Oracy, Dan De Lago, Smart Banker and Buy And Sell at weight for age.

It does look a rather ambitious plan but if Lerena believes Johnnie Fox can be competitive in that company, his charge should be good enough to win a MR 88 Handicap over 1600m.

Some pointers:

R1: Open
R2: Legislature
R3: Open - High Tea should place at least
R4: I believe the filly may give the Captain something to think about
R5: Johnny Fox to get lost in the Forest of Dreams
R6: Open - I also think Navarch is value
R7: Speek Keeper by a street
R8: Open - first choice for me Ahazaza but pleanty others with chances
R9: Open - include as many as possible

My Place 4 for the day - I have utmost respect for Speedkeeper - Handsome Bullion is another Goldkeeper that is in fair form though the stable not as consistent as it has been in the past this guy has kept to his brief and is capable of earning. Balance Of Power is a value place bet in the Speedkeeper heat so perhaps swingers are in order. Choisir could trouble Cpt Scott especially as their only other meeting resulted in the Woody horse being shown to be about 6 lengths superior to the Cpt at levels - Full Moon Rising 3yr old so perhaps scope to improve here but risky race - I would include Romancing Pam in exotics as she has been nominated a fair deal of late (emergency acp to an occasion) so might be boiling to run. Good Punting.

Everyone confident that Speed Keeper will translate that sand form to the turf?

5 runs on sand -> 5th 4th 4th 1st 1st
6 runs on turf -> 1st 8th 7th 13th 9th 10th

All his runs except that debut turf win have been in handicaps.

I'm going to go wide in that leg, though Speed Keeper does seem to have improved a fair bit lately.

Sabre, stable very confident that Speedkeeper is not only a sand horse - I guess we will see today; he comes in off his turf rating which is well below is sand rating - so sure to win easily if he can run to his sand form.....
