If you watch a boat sink the first off are the rats. they find ways out.
They also seem to find drift wood to float on or debris from the sinking boat.
Very few go down with the ship even if they were the ones that chewed through the wood and caused the boat to sink.

during my years in the corporate world, mostly as a management consultant/contractor the last 27 years, at + 72 blue chip JSE listed companies,
I come to the following conclusion :
the clever guys that makes the company work, and are capable of fixing the mess the company finds itself in due to management error, NEVER GETS PROMOTED TO BOARD ROOM LEVEL.
The NOT SO CLEVER GUYS WITH THE SAME VARSITY QUALIFICATIONS, gets promoted to board room level.
guess that is why every company finds itself in a mess from time to time.
surely we cannot discard the NOT SO CLEVER GUYS that have also done the time and got Phd or MBA's. We have to employ them too. Just not in the areas where the work is done.
What adds to the mess, is the EE act and BEE deployments.
many of my former trainees now hold exco jobs at these companies.
Yes, they are good guys, but not 1st team material.
the real good ones left, either to EU or started their own businesses.
See some of their wife are also deployed in exco jobs.
Sure they have MBA's but by heavens, they cannot even manage the kitchen at home.
Based on this, I suggest that the General Index of the JSE will be below 22,000 points by end 2010.
however for those that have some money spare, buy into the financial INDEX.
this INDEX on the JSE will double in the next 3 years, while many of the other will drop drastically, which in turn will impact the general JSE INDEX,
will be writing to you from my coffee shop, westcoast of Italy...soon..

Now down to R 8,50.
Nothing more likely to have management scurrying around than asking them to sustain losses in their personal capacities.
Expect lots of huffing and puffing.

It's hardly surprising is it?
The general discontent with the way that racing is being run is permeating throughout the industry.I listened to the racingweb podcast this morning, and although it was to discuss the weekends racing(Joe Soma and Charl spoke for about 45 minutes in the end) the last 15 minutes were about the state of the industry and how it is being run.It is amazing how similar the discontent is amongst everyone, and yet PGE just carries on regardless in the same old fashion, ignoring their customers and generally just ignoring all criticism.
There are far too many people working in the game who are not qualified to hold the positions that they do.It is not run properly like any business should be,with people holding onto jobs simply because they have been in the game for years.Unless a big broom is used to sweep things clean, there are much tougher times ahead still.
There is talk of the Cape only racing once a week because of the losses that the racing down here makes for PGE.What is going on?The general lack of transparency and the 'we won't respond to public comment' attitude does little to appease those already in the game, let alone attracting the new people to the game that we so desperately need.
'Shorting' the PGE share price looks the best bet of the year to me.

GAME OVER! for current way of running the show when the ones at the top forget who their customer is. Interestingly this is not new- article from the Blood Horse 1993 - Stephen Crist.
It seems Phumelela has been running ahead of themselves wanting to get in on the global market. Where to from here SAF racing and all the involved parties??
Sort out a strategy - a united one!
