The Arc is the ultimate test on grass and the way STS took care of a very good field after a troubled run was the performance of 2009. But whether he was the best ever is an issue we can debate until hell freezes over, without an answer.

True Magic, but you would think with all the technology, you could punch all the data into a computer and have a "virtual" race with Sea the Stars, Mill Reef etc

we could even take bets, or is virtual racing too far fetched

Would have liked to have seen Sea the Stars in the Champions Stakes yesterday,with that suicidle pace..

Exactly what data exists that can ever compute beyond question which was the best of the lot, Dave? We will never know!

I am a great fan of DWC but there is a fundemental flaw with ratings there. Coolmore DONT participate. Classic horses with potential DONT participate.

The breeders cup for me is the true showcase on dirt for a few reasons:
1: SPEED SPEED SPEED true dirt racing needs this element
2: Its at the end of the season so you get (what ever made it through the year
3: Everyone participates and has a go (if they choose)

On Grass
The ARC is for me the ultimate challenges as it also comes toward the end of the year and everyone participates.
the Derby is a great race but not always the strongest in depth.
the Eclipse where the elders meet the youngsters for me is also a great race that identifies class.
