DERMOT WELD completed a Carlton.ie/galwaycity (QR) Handicap hat-trick with Ghimaar, who defied top weight to take the opening day feature at the Galway festival.

Robbie McNamara kept the 10-1 chance prominent throughout the 2m contest, tracking longtime leader Fisher Bridge before pushing clear turning for home.

Evening Rushour, sent off at 20-1, came home two and a half lengths behind in second with the Willie Mullins-trained Mountain Snow holding on for third.

Truckers Delight, sent off the 5-1 favourite, raced keenly behind the leaders for most of the way but found nothing when the pace quickened.

Weld, who took the race with Majestic Concorde last year and Loyal Focus 12 months earlier, was completing a quick-fire double having earlier landed the 7f maiden with Stunning View.

Weld has an amazing record at the Galway festival something like 25% strike rate.
