to me the more i read an listen a merger of the two companies a consolidation of owners associations is the only reality.

Betfair to then come in and up the stakes by offering an alternative.

But at least two tracks will need to go and many more small trainers/jockeys/Suppliers and owners before this mess comes right.

sharkie if the merger goes ahead, presumably this means the whole structure of which racing centres get what is reopened? can't be good news for Cape racing.

KZN does not need the merger, and does not want the merger. Phumelela wants KZN as it will give them what they can not create, A BIG RACE DAY. They want the July and if they can not get it then they will even take the Cape to get the MET. As successfull as they have been Phumelela are nowere near creating anything close to the JULY or the MET, and it is burning their arsses.

The solution is simple sell them the Cape (or in my opinion), give them the Cape, and let GC go it alone. KZN without Cape racing will be highly profitable. Word is that this was exactly what Niarac was busy with. Phumelela are not stupid though, they want the whole of GC as like I said the Cape is a bancrupt business. In terms of this Niarac was in the way, and a plan was hatched to get rid of him. It has been widely reported that the "audit" did not find anything. I originally reported about the matter by saying that "out of province" forces were at work. This did not mean Phumelela only.......

Not adhearing to what Barry Irwin is preaching, has over a long peroid of time lead to most of this trouble. Ignoring what he is saying will in future lead to much bigger problems for racing. Bookmakers are parasites in terms of current rules, regulations and agreements. It is as simple as that.

Aaaah greenbook, but if the Cape directors of GC helps Phumelela to get GC, in exchange for .............................

Now, let's start by looking at top companies that have joint chairmen. Name one or two?

Have no doubt, the game is on.

Thanks Sharkie for the informative post. I am in general quite suspicious of most things in life and have to think that you might be on to something. P is trying to hijack GC from how it looks on the surface.

I wonder if P will still be offering higher stakes across all regions when they are the monopoly. Probably not as they would have achieved what they set out to and the lack of competition will return them back to the land of complacency. The increased stakes issue is another product of P's attempt to lure owners away and bring GC to its knee's. Another suspicious unfounded view, but how it looks on the surface.

I wonder why 60/40? I hope Pirates is right. Makes more sense that way.

Alcaponee, as both companies do not volunteer information about agreements, it makes it difficult to establish exactly what the true situation is. I am fairly sure that I have the basics of the agreement correct, whilst the percentages may not be exactly as I have them. I would not be too far wrong. It also goes for the KZN Cape situation. I am open to correction though.

When the agreement was made to have one single tote they had to agree on how to do it. Adding the turnovers together and then expressing each regions turnover as a percentage of the overall meant a split of say : 60/40. If I am correct the agreement is up for renewal in 2010, and GC should get a slightly higher allocation. GC's Telephone and Internet betting are tops, and is performing way above the split percentage.

yes sharkie but given the currently advantageous terms to Cape racing, relative to turnovers, a merger with P or a GC split has them looking for a new pot to piss in, doesn't it? you can be sure if P gives them a new pot it will be full of piss already.

Morning Hibby, I had a couple of emails, sorry my posts were rather cryptic

Joe Black, was from the movie Meet Joe Black, where Brad Pitt played the "devil" and Andrew Black is the founder of Betfair.

A couple of suggestions for the new structure (no more drinks for me!)
