# Vaal Classic Thursday 7 September 2023 – Comments by David Thiselton

RACE 1     


Preview: SUNSHINE DAY (5) made a good Highveld debut and represents an in form trainer/jockey combination. ARCTIC COMMANDER (6) has done well in her last two starts, both at this venue, and should be right there. FLYING PUMA (3) has run two good races and should also be involved.


RACE 2     


Preview: POLICY OF TRUTH (3) is the form choice over a suitable trip but does have a tough draw. TYSON THE BRAVE (4) has been right there in all three starts and this trip should be ideal but he also has a tricky draw. VIVA SPIRIT (10) has also shown promise and although he has the widest draw of all he looks capable of running on if dropped out.


RACE 3     


Preview: HOUSE OF ROMANOV (6) made a fine Highveld debut and should relish the step up in trip. SCARLETT PIMPERNEL (7) ran well when stepped up to 1600m and should also enjoy the step up in trip. PUERTO PLATA (1) has a wide draw but in his penultimate start he went close over course and distance from the identical draw. (David Thiselton 6-7-1)


RACE 4     


Preview: KIND JUDY (1) was caught wide without cover throughout last time and duly faded but is capable of a lot better than that and Yeni stays aboard. LAST CHEER (2) is an honest consistent sort who is distance suited and Khumalo up will help. PRETTY IN PEARLS (3) only just failed last time over 1800m when considerably under sufferance but has duly been given a 13 point raise and will need to repeat from a tougher draw. RACE 5     


Preview: SILENT WAR (8 ) has done well on the Highveld, especially when stepped up to a more suitable trip last time, and he will enjoy this further step up in trip so can overcome the disadvantage of being under sufferance at the weights. CRIMSON PRINCESS (1) is well drawn over a suitable trip and is well weighted, being just 1kg out with best weighted Perfect Witness. BRAVE VIKING (5) is a promising sort who will be improving being by William Longsword but he does return from a layoff of three months. PERFECT WITNESS (3) is the best weighted and is in good form. RIVER QUERARESS (4) has ability and is only 1,5kg out with Perfect Witness. NOW I GOT YOU (2) has been a touch disappointing overall but he bounced back with a fine run last time and now steps up to the trip of his only win. (David Thiselton 8-1-5-3-4-2)


RACE 6     


Preview: PURPLE PITCHER (8 ) had some good juveniloe form and won well on his three-year-old debut so he looks capable of prevailing here off a 90 merit rating from a good draw. NAPOLEON (9) won well last time over this trip and looks capable of overcoming a three point raise. MO THE MAN (6) is drawn in pole over a suitable trip and should be right there. (David Thiselton 8-9-6)


RACE 7     


Preview: AXEL COLLINS (4) has been dropped one point as is competitively weighted and enjoys this course and distance. SIBERIAN STEEL (2) will appreciate the step down in trip and should be right there. WAR QUEEN (8 ) looks to be promising and starts off on a reasonable merit rating. (David Thiselton 4-2-8 )


RACE 8     


Preview: STORMY CHOICE (2) won well first time out the maidens and stays on the same merit rating. IN THE ETHER (5) ran well last time after a rest and should have benefittted from that run. RED CARPET GIRL (8 ) only just failed last time and if starting in terms should be right there. (David Thiselton 2-5-8 )

Let's hope for a Sunshine Day and the work rider can keep his side of the bargain 😉

4/10 about a runner in a Grooms maiden race? Methinks that is not a betting proposition for me even if it happens to win.

drawn in the car park....... because of this I WON'T have a bet....... will back the OTHER MAGNER runner on the day !

at least I saved my money money came for POLICY as well !

I think both jocks can be in a bit of trouble; Lerena's mount shifted in markedly, causing the favorite to take up the running of Heart of Thieves who almost came down :huh:

Tend to agree but gave it a good ride plus it was 7/10;and it's part of a double for PE on Friday 🤞

Need money for rugby and great racing on Saturday and Sunday
