The wrong surname was a genuine mistake.
It is good to read that the powers in charge are looking at giving viable small stables support.

......@ Sly.... when I 1st saw your post I had a little giggle.....and dont know if you were purposefully trying to bait the bigger fish or all names sound very the same....but oddly not unique as the average racing man dont know the difference between Braun... Bortz or even Oscar.....as I recently was chatting to an ex-jock who I thought had offed himself in a tragic gun related accident.....talk about the broken telephone but he had all these okes confused too....
and I had to explain who's who in the simplest possible way......:S
.....but kudos to Greg and co for all that they have done thus far and hope it lasts to make racing better for all.....

.....yes at last a man that understands and practices' the top down bottom up methodology and then applies it and is always aware to set things straight at the get go.....he has already used the phrase all ships/boats are lifted with the rising tide.....and thus the smaller yards will also be lifted with the efforts thus far.....and will continue to benefit in the future as Cape racing continues to grow.....and hopefully he is able to one day reap the benefits of his contribution..... as when I met with him last year I wanted to tell him that he was then pretty luckless with horse ownership thus far (earlier in 2022) and that it would change as good things happen to good people... and boy did it change as he is only doing good.....

There is an article on Sportingpost,
www.sportingpost.co.za/horse-racing/bort...remains-a-challenge/
explaining the reasoning having 7 races and it touches on pools and payouts.
If this is the way forward when 7 races are carded, I suggest the following,
The first Jackpot should be races from 1 to 4 so only 1 race overlaps the second Jackpot which should be races 4 to 7. In fact for all local racing, the first Jackpot should always be the first 4 races.
Before they had an early morning Jackpot Quickmix which never include any local racing. Whenever there is 7 races locally this should occur so you can try to build a float for the local exotics.
Lastly, there is no transparency regarding Pick 3 carryovers. A portion of this should be added into a Pick 3 pool of races 5 to 7 whenever there is 7 races carded.
A lot of incentives have been introduced for owners and trainers but the punter has nothing. When is Western Cape opening an online Tote betting website. This will create competition amongst the operators to get punters to wager with them and offer incentives. In America all of the big operators from 1stbet to NYRA offer their punters incentives but we only get some kind of incentive once in a blue moon with no rebate punting with the Tote.
Without the punter there will be no pools. Listen to what punters want as well.

.....good to see that Mr Bortz is actually going to press flesh down under and possibly seek out what the other, especially the Asian global players are doing right to put racing and wagering thereon into a more attractive package.....for years people from here attend these events yet have hardly ever come back and tried to apply or infuse anything learnt from other highly successful operations.....

.....and hopefully the 4Q boys and girl would send someone to learn and apply from this conference too.....
As the lifeblood of the sport, wagering has experienced major transformation in recent
years, with innovation, consolidation and change accelerating in local and global markets.
This session will bring together industry leaders across key racing jurisdictions and
wagering markets to examine the major barriers and opportunities which will impact the
future of wagering. Delegates will explore:
• the rise of simulcast, commingling and world pools/global totes;
• the importance of technology innovation, and the aggregation of content and data
rights, to the future success of wagering operators; and
• the integration of wagering, media and entertainment, and the evolution of
wagering marketing and approaches to customer development and retention.
We will also hear from new players in the betting market who are intent on disrupting the
existing wagering model.
The session will include short presentations on key issues and themes, followed by what
promises to be a lively panel discussion.

".....and hopefully the 4Q boys and girl would send someone to learn and apply from this conference too..... “
@Muhtiman, 4Q is a lost cause by any financial or operational metric conceivable. Not surprising, considering that some 24 months ago, neither the CEO, CFO and 4QTV Broadcasting Head had any knowledge, exposure or expertise on the financial, technical and operational aspects of the business of horse racing. Yet they hold the apex positions in the 4Q food chain and some people (with multiple pieces of headgear) still believe that this lot can save themselves and horse racing in 4Q land. The emergence of a new, competent and energized leadership team at Cape Racing team has made 4Q look embarrassing pedestrian.
Gold Circle is also not too many steps behind 4Q given some of the recent announcements confirming their failing lackluster business model that is devoid of the energy and innovation that is fueling Cape Racing.
The only benefit I see for "4Q boys and girl" attending the conference at Melbourne is that it offers them yet another opportunity to beg Bortz to accept another hospital pass to save their asses.

I think that ex-P / closet ANC are going to Melbourne because it's not coming out of their pocket...like to be seen...like those numerous trips to the Cape when it was under their control...
More worryingly for WC is that they cannot have many meets like yesterdays if they want to be sustainable...7 races, dire results in the main...1 Maiden Juvenile, 3 Maiden Special Weights, 1 Handicap, 1 Middle Stakes and 1 Classified Stakes...even a dartboard would have been of little use...especially in the first 4 races...
And look what awaits punters on Thursday 16/02 at Turffontein...maiden juvenile to start the PA and P6 with very few raced horses...I know it's not really a problem for the P6 but a real problem for the PA with so many unraced runners...those in the know are at a huge advantage to the ordinary punter...we know the betting cannot be trusted with yesterday's first race of Kenilworth being another example thereof...
When money is returned to many punters, they will have the funds to bet on future races and the churn enables take-out...when money goes into the hands of a few, less likely that most of it will be churned so take-out gets compromised leading to the sustainability of the industry being compromised...
So, we need better programming and more consistent results as a starting point...industry success will follow...
