Ricky Maingard 1st runners in WC for 2022

My brain cells have mostly gone but did Ricky train Wolf Power? He certainly had some good ones 😉

I remember riding shotgun escorting him from Milnerton to Kenilworh for the Queens Plate and the Met
Were good days, meeting Jeff Lloyd and walking them to the beach in Milnerton

Remember seeing a post recently, posted by Bob from NHA. The post had Maingard listed has a trainer. I was assuming he was going to train horses here. Welcome back.

I remember Wolf Power and Bodrum. Both greys

I’m sure Bodrum was with Spike Lerena. Perhaps not, I might be confused with Jungle Rock.

Remember him having a horse called Respectable.
Everyone says the greatest race to watch in South africa is perhaps Model Man vs Main Man and maybe rightfully so as it was a grade 1 race.

But equally up there was a race between Respectable and Castle Walk(Millard) at greyville.
Lloyd vs Felix Coetzee.
These 2 jocks and horses went down that Greyville straight for 400m on the same stride , hammer and tong with a mm seperating them at the line.'

was probably 1985 or so, was still in school.
Maingard had many a good horse and had a lot of success with jockey Gunter Wroggeman also.

......Jungle Rock was indeed trained by Spike Lerena....Bodrum was bred and perhaps raced by the Oppenheimer's and their trainer at the time was John Gorton....

We have a wealth of knowledge here.

I was in Standard four when Respectable became one of my favorite horses when she dead heated for third with Jungle Warrior in the July behind, Illustrador and Olympic Duel. Two years later or so Respectable won the Gold Vase at a nice price. Up till this day I am still winning with her lineage mainly through Respectable Lady who has produced Grade 1 winner Bold Respect and hard knocker, Super Silvano. Funny enough, in the 1990s I backed Admilarity Arch and Milleverof who also won the Gold Vase and Hainan Dao who was an emergency acceptor and got in on that Friday. Sportingpost had an article on Hainan Dao. If it was not for these type of horses, I doubt I will have been hooked.

Note when Admilarity Arch won, it survived an objection. It was ridden by Robbie Hill. Being only in my teens, I wondered how can there be an objection when it was in the front.

......looks like Ricky Maingard did train Bodrum .....:oops: ....as there are a few snapshots of him with Bodrum on the Mauritzfontien website timeline 1984....one picture with him and both greys Bodrum and Wolf Power....
