I think today just spare a thought for those not as privileged as many of us, lots to complain about, but let's be thankful for what 'Freedoms' we still have available to us
Racing today looks the usual mix - thoughts:
R1: I don't think is difficult for a first-timer to win this, first one to catch the eye of course the de Kock inmate, but any of the other debutantes could easily be good enough to surprise; interesting also the well-bred Tarry inmate, who should be better over more ground, but has a neat draw and could easily run onto the money
R2: Little Mary Sunshine imo very short in the betting, had every chance last time, and while obviously getting 3kgs from I Am Regal, that one has had 2 winners behind her in her debut win - so probably the better value - has to be between the two
R3: Competitive looking Maiden; Dawn Mission improving nicely, and should get the 2000, but again no value imo at current odds; Magner stable has come back with 4 seconds yesterday, so Sea of Galilea should feature, while Mactavish is also improving with racing and looks the value; Lamborghreeni tries blinkers and also would not be a surprise winner; interesting improvement from Dark Horse last time and with Bling riding, could improve more and run into the money
R4: Weak-looking maiden; not a lot between the Dawson coupling on their runs behind Pashasha; Japan Approval has the better draw, and arguably could be better suited to 2000m, but Colour Coded has had an extra run, and did finish in front of Zanobian Princess (a winner yesterday) last time, so I find it hard to split them - JA the better value; Matchett stable had 3 winners yesterday, but I do think Pretty in Pearls is very moderate
R5: This looks very tough to narrow down; Spanish Boy has the weight advantage, but last saw the winners enclosure more than 600 days ago, so while he should be right there again, others probably more likely to win; perhaps Alula's Star and Mill Queen heading the list of possible winners - but I'm loading up
R6: Another competitive Classified Stakes where the females hold an advantage a the weights; however I think Bloomington is improving after a gelding and from pole position should at least give you a good run for your money; some of the other main protagonists are drawn wide and Java House has not won for 678 days and does look better over shorter - so by process of elimination, Bloomington may the right one
R7: The hottie of the day makes an appearance here, and on form looks very hard to oppose; however it has to be taken into account that the stable had an off day yesterday, and although it doesn't automatically follow that all horses in the stable can be ignored, I'd be careful in labelling this one as 'past the post'; if she does fall in a hole, I think Caralluma can take advantage - improving back to best and is a winner this track and trip; also well weighted and only a slightly tricky draw for a very useful apprentice (has lost his allowance though) to contend with; Ballroom Bliss, Barney's Pride, Noble Sniper and Captain of Grit others to consider if taking on the hot shot
R8: My guess as good as anyone's
