Not your best day Frodo but you just had to back your last one and you would have got your money back plus.

All the best to all Clanners for today...stay safe and healthy...
Samoa was 10/1 or 12/1 or 14/1 and paid R1.50 for a place on the tote...one of the reasons fixed odds have a place...

Hi Clanners could someone explain to me the formula/equation for places on a horse..
Obviously it depends on the price of a horse but what is the percentage of the price that gives the place price...for fixed prices..I apologised for my lack of knowledge but love this game as it is very similar to golf...very frustrating and unpredictable...thank you

The rule of thumb is 1/4 of the win odds for a place. However, for small fields or where there is a short priced favourite, will be tighter. SA bookies are notoriously mean on place prices.

Thanks Dave...obviously Fixed place odds better than Tote odds as you don't know what you are going to get with the Tote at the off....

Its probably best to take fixed odds and at least you know your return.
The tote can pay nothing for your "risk" plus remember the more you play on tote its reducing your own odds .
You can also get pleasant surprise?
The tote is best for racing in the long run but the open bet has to be addressed.
Good Punting
